Classic Auto Air in 67 Barracuda Factory Non AC

May I offer you some advice on this kit? I purchased one of their kits 6 years ago and I have never liked it. These morons used black o-rings on the expansion valve 2 of them and they leaked from day 1. I sent it back to them, they kept it 2 weeks promised it was fixed and they lied, they never ever broke the case apart to fix the leaking o-rings, as it is a PITA. I finally took apart the case and fixed it. Maybe they use green o-rings now. I would check before it's installed and won't hold a vacuum.
Yes they are green I checked them. I think I read your post or someone’s on this before. So I checked it before I started. Thanks.

No I didn't do a thread and I agree the instructions are very vague. I did have to call the tech line on a couple of occasions. I think the switch modification was one of them. Another FABO member rewrote the installation instructions and sent them to me which did help.

I'll see if I have them with me but I think they are on my home computer but I'm on vacation now for 3 weeks.
If you find the re-written instructions please post them. I’ll be doing this on my wifes 67 dart soon....thanks

I will do my best to rewrite them when I’m done. At least the (don’t do this- do this) stuff. It’s not too bad. Just frustrating having to second guess yourself.

I never had issues installing mine last year.
67 dart with 340 and a 67 barracuda dash

Very straight forward, but I also rewired car with ron francis wiring kit.

Just an update. I have everything done under the dash. I put my radio in the glove box. Had no where else to put it. Moved My ECM. JUST WAITING ON FITTINGS for my compressor. I had to order some low profile 90 degree otherwise my hood won’t close. I have a 5.7 truck motor so the compressor sits up top. We finally had a cold front blow in this weekend so I figured I’d get busy. Only 99 degrees. My electric bill is gonna be high. I pump AC from my house into the garage.

This is what I had to do to close my hood.

That’s what I figured I’ll have to do. I already have the accessories moved out- not far enough apparently. I may have to do like you and swap the alt. And compressor around. I did not want to do that since I already spent the money on the billet brackets I have now. Hopefully the fittings I got will work. I have the 6.1 intake on mine. Same issue you have. Thanks for the picture.

Bad thing is now I get my parts today but like an idiot I put my hood in the PAINT Shop PURGATORY. He said he could do it over the weekend and that was a month ago.

It’s finally in. I tried charging it myself. What a cluster that was. Too many knobs for me. Only gets to 68. No leaks though. I did Heater does not work I think I have the lines backwards.

Doesn’t matter which way the heater hoses are connected. It will work either way.

When charging, I charge till the low side on the compressor sweats. It helps to hose down the radiator to lower pressures and I put the Freon can in a bucket of hot water to raise th3 pressure in the can to get it all out.

On this setup the hoses do matter how they are hook up. If backwards like I had it at around 2500rpms the AC blows hot air because the valve is forced open when the return is hooked up the feed side. At least they had in the tech support section.

I do have too say this is pretty nice having AC and Heat. I used AC yesterday at 97degrees outside and today the heat at 56. The heater cooked me.

Yep, agreed. I meant that it would not stop the heater from working

Question... Can you charge the system yourself? I have this installed and I thought it said on the instructions to use a machine and rotate the compressor by hand?

I charged it myself. You turn the compressor to get the oil circulated in the compressor from what I understand. That’s part I forgot to do. So when I turned it on the clutch was real slow for a second then was fine. I rented the vacuum pump and gauges from Autozone. Watched a couple of YouTube videos. The first time I tried it I did not have an adapter for the Freon can I was supposed to have.
