I found this video on how Tesla can press a button and disable features and abilities of their cars.

This is not exclusive to tesla these days. Future generations are going to have the useless cars of today to work with, it's sad.

Hold on to your old computer less vehicles if you want to drive free.

So then the car is essentially "not yours" when you buy it. Bullshit.

Only if you keep their computer.

There are already people out there putting Tesla motors in classic cars, and there are already companies out there making the equivalent of stand alone ECM’s for them. Hot rodders will keep hot rodding.

Like this guy- ‘71 satellite with Tesla power...

Young people are so in love with their computers that hey can't live without them . Very , very sad ! I have a grandson who has a B.S. degree in computer science from U.Mass but can't tie his shoes , drive a car or know which end of a screwdriver to use . He is a nice young man , respectful who lives in a world the size of a postage stamp . I love him dearly . Without a computer , he's lost .

I'm a 26 year IT industry guy.
However, I started as an auto mechanic, machine operator, electrician's apprentice and building maintenance.

The diagnostic skill sets are compatible, if not identical.

Our son, although not as handy with tools, is the IT guy for a medium sized logistics co.
He has built his own computers including a bitcoin "mining" rig, and fabricated a ceiling mount for a projector that fills a wall with it's picture.

...and he does drive an oddball 2 motor base model 3 tesla, on which he figured out what patch to apply to unlock the 11 second quarter mile performance option versus the 13 second one it came with.

So there is some hope.....

The supercharge option is available to the cars that Tesla thinks can handle it. After the battery wears, high current charging damages the battery further so they blacklist that VIN or mac address or whatever ID it carries for supercharging. Normal charging is always available. Same way Microsoft stops updates from Win7 computers and even does not support Win10 on Win7 laptops (lack of power or chipset features) as there are no Win7 drivers for many new single board laptop peripherals now, and vice versa. Apple is the worst. Pushes OS's that are larger than some phones internal memory and battery issues.....criminal. They lost a suit in federal court preventing 3rd parties from accessing data to repair them. John Deere is the same, they wont release repair documents on their products. Any time you see an Apple logo on a Prius, that person thinks its 'saving the planet from greenhouse gasses', yet is filling landfills with unrepairable Apple products and supporting terrible working conditions at Foxconn, Apples manufacturing contractor..who has suicide nets outside their dorms to protect people.... on the sidewalks.

Hotrodders will always hotrod something.
I view a modern vehicle as a necessity to get there and back.
I view my old Mopars as pleasure, be it building or driving. Where I drive it is generally not a necessity. Back before I quite working my part time job and making that 30 mi on way trip to work driving my old Mopar there was both, enjoyable and a necessity!
Guy asked other day why would anyone build an old Mopar unless it will be fast and fun. My take is if you really want streetable FAST buy a modern muscle Mopar. If you want fun, build an old Mopar with whatever level of power you need. Be it little or more. Go slower or faster but GO COOL!!!! There are by far more people into A bodies than E or B or whatever one reason being my reasons I just stated.
