ok...moving along......put water in motor...and it stayed in motor....lol

need to get headers on tomorrow...then we start it

Racing Saturday night.....suppose to 108 for a high......at least the sun will be down

I forgot that the belts expired back in April....got set on order...but wont be here....

Glad you got it ready. Sucks on the belts though. Where are you getting them from? I have it easy as Simpson Racing is 8 to 10 min. from the house.

We will be good for this one race....given the covid crap....they wont even look at the car....

Got it fired up this afternoon....but not sure about this engine......

one problem...my timing light died......so i could not get the timing set correctly and the engine got hot...had to shut it off...and let it cool....
tried the timing light again...and nope....rpm feature works but the timing light part does not...

got small tranny leak at rear hose fitting just needs a tug on the fitting tomorrow...
borrowed an old craftsman timing light from a friend around the corner....Got it set within a degree or so....was too far advanced...

ordered a new one thru Amazon suppose to be here tomorrow....

going to adjust valves and change oil and filter in morning....then see if i think this thing is going to make it to the track or not...

well...this thing is staying home today......got a couple of issues that I need to take a second look at without hurrying ......dont want to damage a new motor...

ok...been a pretty bad week...and pretty busy week

Saturday morning i pulled the valve covers,,,,driver side everything checked out fine.....passenger side....no 8 intake and exhaust was loose...i readjusted them...and then turned engine over...and it was obvious that the exhaust rocker was not going up and down all the....figured i had flatted a lobe......other issue i had during break in went the motor got HOT.....oil pressure had dropped from 80 psi to 40 psi.....

Sunday I pull intake manifold and it looked like 3 lobes were damaged in the 20 minutes it ran......so....had to do some thinking....what happened.....
sin
After thinking about this screw up.....I had two engine torn apart at the same time...both using a hughes 6468 cam....both using Howards EDM lifters.....i got the lifters mixed up...and bingo.....
the other engine is still on the engine stand...i will remove those lifters and install new ones that were ordered...
so now what....i pulled the cam out....my oldest daughter friend makes lamps out bad camshafts.......lol

so what about the oil pressure?.....dont know...i looked and looked for bearing material...dropped the pan....nice thing about the qa1 k member...pan comes off easy...
i could see and feel bits of metal...but the magnetic drain plug was pretty clean of any metal pieces.....so...decision time....LOL

Sitting on engine stand is bare block that had to have a Heil coil installed in the front due to a bolt in the timing chain cover breaking and me not drilling too straight...I had been fully assemble short block....

Monday after work...i decided to assemble that block....got it all washed up....crank in....the pistons had the rings on them and attached to the rods...so it was an easy go....

yesterday i got the camshaft MP590 installed and degreed in...timing chain cover on....oil pan on....

I wanted to use the heads that were on the other engine so i removed them today....cleaned them up....they had run 20 minutes...mostly intake gasket stuff..

the I pulled the remainder of the old engine out of the car........

I thought i had the right head gaskets that i needed but nope...Summit will deliver them tomorrow...`

SO i will see how far i can get with this tomorrow...there is a TnT saturday night....

and it has been 108 all week in Vegas....that is what is killing me....aint no kid anymore....lol

WOW! you still have more energy and drive than I do! That list probably would have taken me a....month? Hope things turn around and everything goes smooth for you.

Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Sorry about the cam going flat, but I admire your determination

Man I love your drive and determination but man you gotta slow down to stop a few of these mistakes. Write idiot notes, take pictures, white paint pen, or something to stop the one step forward two steps backwards way of life. Again I love your get up and go and enjoy reading your posts but sometimes 1/2 speed ahead is better than full steam ahead. Goodluck getting her fixed up.

i slowed down today......car is not going to make Saturday night.....heat is killing me

Ahhhh.... life in the desert. I was mentally playing with myself about making some hits sat, but I think I’m just going to sit tight.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway..... a sea of asphalt where you can see ground temps reach 150+. Even when the sun goes down, the heat coming up from the ground can be brutal. A test and tune a few years ago it dropped below 100 degrees at 12:15am. Kinda takes the fun out of it....

Heat is killing even these younger kids. We got to Quaker City Raceway around 7pm and my portable air conditioner read 95 when I got it fire up. I’m glad my sons driving my car this weekend.

Motor is done except for intake manifold and the two freeze plugs I can not get while it is on the engine stand...

Orange block upside down is the damaged one....main bearing dont look good either...
blue engine in back ground with plastic bag on it is 408 with TF heads waiting to go in Dart....and other blue engine is a spare 360 that will get some upgrades once I get caught up....

Spend a few hours in the garage this morning......Got the intake manifold on it....and mated the trans and engine together.....Got too hot suppose to be 115 today....

so we are taking the 71 Dart out to the track tonight....gates open at 6 pm and racing starts at 8 pm......See ya all there...lol

At 10 am this morning it is 105 heading for a high of 115.....dropped the engine in the car..hooked up a few easy things and out of there...

Man you guys have some high temps.its only in the 90s in VA.putting air conditioning in the garage is the best money I ever spent.
