I haven't built models since I was about 13 or 14. Now that I'm turning 58 soon, I have these waiting to be completed. The '58 Fury will not be the typical red Christine. Instead, she'll be a surf green and white. The '57 Chrysler....I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking black or salmon pink. As for the planes, I want them to look like the the box images.

funny you brought that up

at the old house i had a basement room for modeling
even had a little paint booth

then kids came along and we moved and i got rid of everything (except for a few finished models)

just this morning, my boy mentioned he wanted to build one again, so i think next time i go out, i might pick him up a P'51

remember when they were <$5 a kit? I bought an ugly Jaguar as a kid in 1/48 and it was ALL WHITE, not even any chrome pieces. Must have been a higher level model because there were about 6 sprues of parts in that little tiny car kit. I thought it was funny that my Dad was visibly upset when I showed him the kit as it was way too hard for my skill level. I built a huge model of the General Lee, maybe 1:12? It was about 12" long and had little spark plug wires! That was really cool, even if you were not a DoH fan.

they retooled that one into a street charger, then a Petty kit

I remember when the 1/24 & 1/25 Revell, AMT, Monogram, & others were 2.00 Plus .04 tax. Damn I'm old!!!

Street Charger (1/16th) is a combination of '71-2 (hideaway headlights) and '73-4 taillights. I bought one that was incomplete to build a clone of my sons '71 (one of these days). I then bought a Buddy Baker '73 Charger to have the missing pieces for it. The Street Charger kits are going for close to $200 (if you can find one) last time I looked. Scored mine for $30 and paid $35 for the Baker kit several years ago.

holy cow

when i got rid of my collection, 3-4 years ago there was a street charger, and a DoH kit in there, plus several sets of rims, (i remember the daisys) and an extra hemi
all in 1/16th
all unbuild of course

i dont think i got anywhere near that much for the whole collection

Model prices have gone absolutely nuts the last few years. I have a box of kits I have had for many years (late 80s-early 90s and some newer ones from Hobby Lobby) that I hope to finish one of these days (sure I will :D ). I had wanted a Badman '55 Chevy to build or even a Badman II diecast but not at the prices they are going for. Seems someone mentioned wanting a '72 Impala? kit on another board. Another member posted a link for discontinued? kits that had one. Only $499.95.... for a freakin' model car kit. :(

495.95 for a model kit? even for a plastic one? Bloody hell, that's robbery! I think I paid about $60 for the two planes and about $35 or $40 for the Christine.

When I was a kid, my oldest brother passed his model collection down to us younger ones. There was a '55 chevy, a '59 El Camino, A '64 Chevelle, A '57 Ford, a 41 Willys, A '62 Galaxy, and a James Bond Aston Martin. Not only were there the cars, but boxes of chrome parts, grills, engines, tires, rims, etc. I don't know what happened to them all, but they probably got dumped or used for target practice with our pellet guns, grrrr! If only I could go back in time and rescue that stuff!

I think unopened NOS box kits sell at the Flings for ~10 a piece. Im gonna have to buy a few whenever we can get that show going again.

Just beware, a lot of the kits for sale on e-bay and swap meets have been opened and resealed.

Get him the Tamiya kit. It's reasonably price if you shop a little and it's a much better fit, and nothing makes for an ugly experience like an ill fitting kit.

This one is still in the plastic I have had it for a while. What’s it worth maybe I should eBay it.
Looks like it’s a 1995 version.

I started when Testers paint was .15 Then they went to .25 I wrote them a letter and then went to .19 I glued plug wires on 1/25 funny cars

I got that Testors master builders kit for my birthday one year: abouy 12 paint jars, thinner, brushes, sandpaper, etc. All in a plastic case. I thought i wont the lottery! Iirc it was the "Military flats" set for all my WWII planes I was building. The BIG Monogram B-17G kit was my favorite, big and detailed. I got that kit in a big lot from the wife of a church man who died, i also got the big Tamiya B-52 in black thay retailed for about $75 back in 1980. Huge money for a model kit, but it was Tamiya, the 'Snap-On' of model kits: rediculously overpriced.

Stopped at hobby lobby today. $29.99 for a basic 1/24 - 1/25 scale model kit. I just cant justify that. And the styrene plastic they are using these days seems weaker and softer than the plastics I built with in the 1980s.

They have those online 40% off coupons making the kit prices a little bit better at about $18. I bought a Revell 66 Shelby GT350 H mustang kit a couple years back to build to go with a Revell 66 GT350 kit I built back in the 1980s. Same kit same moulds, weak *** soft plastic.

My favorites are the old JoHan kits. They modelled some really oddball different stuff than everybody else did. It's a shame they went out of business.

Ya I wish I would have known kit prices were going to go through the roof. I sold a few hundred aircraft kits about ten years ago for next to nothing. Just kept a dozen or so I really wanted to build. I do have a bunch of car kits but all the parts are mixed up because I was planning to do motor and other swaps.

I got rid of all that clutter but ended up getting into Flintknapping and now have a few tons of rocks laying around instead. LOL

I have at least a dozen unbuilt kits, some unopened, recently picked up a Plymouth Prowler at a garage sale for under $5.00, unopened, plus a couple NASCAR kits, have about 40 or so that I have done over the years, including Petty Superbird and Sox&Martin 71 Hemicuda. Did a 71 Hemicuda convert a couple years ago, like the one from Nash Bridges, but painted it metallic black. I had the big Street Charger kit ages ago, it was done in black with gold accents, IIRC it died as target practice for my .22, along with several other ones.

Glenguy,

The AMT Chrysler kits are well detailed, you'll have fun with them!

I couldn't get my "waiting list" in one photo......have hundreds, mostly, Mopar, drag racing, Ed Roth and movie cars.

I've been doing alot of figure work lately, so the vehicles have to take a back seat. This figure is one I'm working on now, Wesley Snipes as Blade.

Speaking of pricing, yea, the styrene prices have gone up for sure......but take it from me, stay away from the resin figure kits!? LOL!
This Blade piece is 1/4 scale, stands around 18" tall, was limited to only 50 pieces produced. Sold for $700. I'm doing this one as a commission piece for a customer who paint $900 for it second hand!?
