I want to check my brakes on my '66 Barracuda. The level is very low in the MC and the brakes are spongy. What I plan to do is inspect the brakes, and if they are still good, keep them, but I feel that it would be a good idea to flush the system before adding and bleeding through new fluid. Also, what type of fluid should I use, as I don't know what was used in the car before? Thanks.

Should have been type 3. Type 5 did not exist then. I would STRONGLY urge you to consider converting it to tandom master cylinder. This requires the tandem master, some brake tube workover, and a distribution block "maybe." If you don't care about a warning light (and I would not) I'd just separate the rear line from the present distro block, plug that port (using an inverted flare plug) and then connect the master up

Ok, thanks. I have considered doing a tandem master cylinder replacement. The old one looks a bit archaic.
