Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

-
Reminds me of a guy in HS. He had a 350 Vega. I had a 70 Charger. He used to say oh you have a Slopar. And I would just think to myself. You can only dream pal.

This statement applies to the car show / in general car meet crowd.

One moron was walking around ever so proudly in his bow tie T shirt and asks a MoPar guy what engine is that. He heard 383 and started SCREAMING “He put a Chevy in his MoPar” over and over like 30 times.

When he finally calmed down a bit, I walked over to him, he see’s me coming and asks me “Isn’t that guy an asshole putting a ....”

Hold on bud! I say. He’s not that asshole and I’m surprised you allow yourself to act like one in public. Come here!

We walk over to the car, and I point to the engines distributor and ask... “What Chevy has a distributor upfront?”

A Duhhhhhhhhhhmb founded look covers his face followed by a neat shade of RED!

Class was now in session. I was a semi waste of time because he was “Convinced” of a great many things even when confronted with visible proof & The testimony of others. Sometimes, you just can’t teach stupid! And it gets worse when stupid is convinced!

Agree w/ the show car crowd !!

And it’s just not the dumb *** snot nose ultra flag waving moron, the other half of the crap stew is ether the old fart (mental state, not age) Resto Nazi A hole or the arrogant I know it all guy that thinks he knows how to build a race engine apply it to your cruiser built machine.
They interrupt a conversation, tell you how you screwed up, what you did wrong and then say “I guess you don’t care about making power then!”

Ummmm, what? Who are you? And how does that single plane Dominator combo apply to a driver built engine?
Everyone talks and only half listen.
So annoying.

I looked at one 383 Charger, and I thought I can't believe they make an aftermarket "383 High Performance" air cleaner...and then I remembered the chevy thing.:(

I have one right now under the work bench. lol
and you're not building a 67 Chevelle L78 clone ? There's no 383 Mopar that could touch that one, stock. Friend had one, very tough car.
How to lap valve video will be here soon.
I'm looking forward to it. Great work with the build and thread

Naw. I kinda jumped the gun on it. I got it with the intentions of putting it in a 68 El Camino a friend has. He could not find the paperwork on it so I had to pass. Keep telling myself to look out for a 64 or 65 El Camino or a 68-72 Nova, but honestly, something has to go, so I am going to get a cheap set of headers and a distributor, bust it off and break it in and make a for sale video.

Rusty you probably know this already, but in Georgia you can get your buddy to write out a bill of sale on the El Camino. Don't have to have the title. Police will come out and inspect the car to make sure it isn't stolen and you can get it in your name and tagged at the DMV after.

I know.....I am just really particular because I had a bad experience once and almost lost a vehicle because of that, so now I make sure to have titles on everything.

As promised, here's the how to lap valves video.

That’s exactly what I did for my ‘71 Duster I picked up from FABO Bubba in Ga. the car was sold to my friend in Winder and when I came and got it a officer showed up and signed off on everything after inspecting all the paper work. Coming from NY, never seeing this done before, was interesting. Everything was hand written paper work.

Got the other head's valves lapped in tonight. It is in the same great condition as the first. Should have them done this weekend, as my spring shims are supposed to be here Saturday.

Good video of how "you" lap valves...
You were able to hold my attention for the first 5 minutes at least while I was on the crapper this morning..lol...
You get that 400 crammed into that little car and you're going to be able to haul the mail for sure...
