can you run stock retainers and locks with either comp 901-16 or Hughes 1110 springs? im looking to possibly put Hughes Whiplash cam SM1326AL or Hughes whiplash SMC2336AL in my 360 and will need to run either one of the springs listed above..

Have you read the recent posts on here regarding Hughes cams?
I personally have zero experience with Hughes cams, but you may want to do a little research prior to your cam purchase.
Solid cam damage diagnosis help

yeah i have read up and read up and most everything i read someone has a problem with either Hughes cams or Comp cams. not everyone can afford the $500 Bullet or ISKY race cams... most of the time cam failure comes from the break in done incorrectly or not using proper oil or a zinc additive.. alot of people knock the summit cams too, but my 318 has a summit 6901 that has been in it running strong for almost 15 yrs with no issue,

Isky race cams?
no hft or ft for mopar AFIK
Summit 6901 is a CAM Dynamics design AFIK and has that reputation, at a big low end and mid range deficit compared to cams with similar duration- not a bad choice but not great either

$500 is cheap if it does not fail out of the gate.
Fail one cam and replace the lifter set and your into for more $.

Howards cams are priced very close to comp, and lots of good grinds.

Comp gets a bad rep because probably 2/3 of people buy from them, it's a numbers things. I've run several or their cams with good luck, but their lifters are trash (I'm running microtrol hydraulics now and they're good so far). I really wish I'd sprung for the howards grind I wanted, but I was in a hurry and the comp was supposed to arrive sooner (it didn't).

Yes I would stay away from comp. Only failure I had was with a comp HTF 268. Switched to a comp 270 solid flat and loved it many 6500rpm runs. Anyways go to a Howard if any

i used a comp cam on my 340 years ago , it is still going strong , no idea of todays quality mine was bought 9 years ago . After reading the hughes cam post , i'm not sure i would trust a cam from them . like they posted above how much will a failure cost to rebuild/fix better to pay a little more now than pay big later

One thing I just noticed is the exhaust lift of your cam is .516 with 1.5 ratio rockers. On Comp's website they list the maximum lift for the 901's as .490. That might be enough to cause an issue.

I'm just gonna save up and get the correct hughes 1110 springs.

Probably a good plan. I wonder who makes them for them. Lots of springs listed on Summit's site. They all have different specs. Some have coil bind information and some don't. Hughes is a bit sketchy on their specs. Crazy!

I checked tracking at first it said would be here Monday by end of day and then today and now it's just stuck in transit with no possible delivery date. Covid is really jacking up shipping everywhere.

I saw that. Still in transit. Heck, may be it will show up tomorrow. I ordered a car show kit from Summit and it wasn't supposed to be here until Thursday. It came today!

Hughes does not wind springs
check PAC and PSI and Associated (Isky) or Crower
once you find the proper spec spring call around with an RFQ
Lunati, Erson, Doug Herbert have good spring prices
but as with everything spec exactly what you want
no "replaces",, same as etc
