I want to install a new tank on my Duster.............atleast I think I want to

Its the factory tank and I have no idea whats inside the tank (nor the condition of it)

Should I remove it and have it cleaned or just remove it and buy a new tank?

I see they sell tanks with 4 vents and tank with no vents, etc.........stupid question, but how can I tell what I need?

Get under the car and look at the area around the sending unit, directly behind the differential. If you are unsure, take pics and post them, if your tank is original 50 year old, I would replace it unless the car has been a pampered, garage kept, low mileage original car. Even then, the tank can still be full of crap. New tanks are not expensive and well worth the effort IMO.

I feel it is worth the added effort also........I would like to also replace the 5/16" sending unit with a 3/8", since the car was originally a 340 car and has a 440 now

I will take some pics for verification

Here are some pics, hope it helps.

Thanks in advance

Filler neck is vented, but doesn't appear to be a vented tank, and no return line for a vapor canister. I agree with the 3/8 sending unit pick up, especially with a big block.

Alittle added fuel flow will be good, I think

You could also buy a new tank designed for EFI with an internal pump. If you are sticking with a carb for now you can use a regulator up front to drop the pressure down for the carb. Then in the future if you switch to EFI you'll already have the fuel system installed and debugged.

-- If I understand it, correctly, the 4 vent tanks are for 71, and up.

Van's Auto, Wapun, WI. They should have the SS tank, think your tank is the same as my '69 Dart. Installed one last year. Know that your new fuel tank sender will not be compatible with your fuel gauge. Don't throw your old one away, it can be rebuilt and up graded to 3/8".

Thanks for that info.....something I didn't think about

I'll just drop the tank and verify what I need before I order one.....and all new lines

If you buy through eBay (Van’s Auto) you’ll get free shipping. Same company and you’ll save $50 to $70.

eBay item #361612872418

I am not sure I need or want to spend the money on a SS tank
