Once again, any updates on the 20:1 box. I was interested in the 16:1 PST box but heard it may be too twitchy for drag racing.

I have no further info at this time. It is still under consideration.

Thanks

we have been asking and waiting for over 2 years now . the 20 to 1 box will sell big time .

Really!!! ......as in too much reaction at top speeds..I don't know man that's what the **** I read.
Your reply was very helpful though.
Reply? It was a question really put in a joking manor.
My bad. Sorry your hurt.
Honestly, I don’t see it. But a lack of drivers skills will show up on something like this. If your expecting a loose wheel that takes half a day to turn a corner (Many many turns) vs a sneeze and your doing 360’s, yup! That’s a problem.

Was just seeing if anyone had real drag racing experience with 16:1 before I order.

Not hurt at all.

I installed my 16:1 PST box in May and then took the car to get an alignment, because I also changed control arms and wheels. The guy at the shop said that the gearbox was too tight out of the box. So he loosened it up to "break it in". Not sure, if that is necessary. Anyways, after I picked up the car I noticed that there was grease coming out of the top of the box:

Is that bad? Also, do you recommend doing the worm bearing pre-load adjustment before tightening the box?

Got my 16:1 PST box installed last week and I love it. Not overly stiff at all.Way easier to steer then I thought it was going to be. I also had the grease come out. I'm pretty sure it's just a relief valve.

I had the same thing and tightened the plug, seemed to cure it.

Thanks @347Duster247 and @lead69, that's a relief! I like the 16:1 box a lot too and it's really not a noticeable difference to the 24:1 box I had before. Only that it's not that sloppy, haha.

What size front tires do you have?

Relatively narrow. Also the early abodies weigh a little less.

Edit: * I just noticed* you have a /6 with aluminum intakes. That weight off the front is a big factor.

When you start getting into 225, 235, 245 wide front tires the low speed turning resistance increases quite a bit. Also the lower profile with stiffer side wall increase effort some too.

:BangHead: so, after it's "broken in", are you supposed to tighten it back up?

He said something like it would help to get the grease between the gears, but honestly I wish he had just left it alone completely. I'm sure they're fine from the factory. I brought the car in for an alignment - not for him to mess with it. He claims that he's been wrenching on Mopars since he was 16 years old when he had a '66 Valiant as his first car. He's got some Mopars on his lot and says he has a '65 Barracuda Formula S that he's gonna fix up soon, but I don't really trust him that much anymore. I have some QA1 adjustable strut rods that he doesn't seem to understand and bitches about, haha.

Who in LA did the alignment and install work?

Gus at Lizarde Auto on Figueroa in Cypress Park/ Northeast L.A. - I've known him for like 14 years. He's across the street from a job I had back then. And he was the only one that I could find that would do an alignment on an old Mopar. I just saw your Fall Fling link - where in L.A. are you? I'm in Eagle Rock.

It would be nice to see the 20:1 ratio. But then it might kill the sales on the 16:1.

As long as the 16:1 is killing it. I don’t think the 20:1 is gonna happen.

btw. I ditched the Mopar Perf. Itty bitty steering wheel and went back to the factory wheel and it helped some on ability to turn the wheels up front.

Simi Valley. But grew up in LA and sold supplies to repair shops all over So Cal.

Part of the club that puts on Fall and Spring Fling Mopar shows at Woodley Park, Van Nuys.

I had a customer up street next to AB Muffler about 10 years ago. I do remember seeing old cars and some Mopars in front of that place. Something in black primer IIRC.

What does your alignment printout sheet say?

wondering what @PST has to say...

nice looking barracuda, you should just learn how to do the alignment your self

All the boxes that we sell come pre-adjusted to factory specs, greased and ready to install. But for any reason one needs to adjust one of our boxes. Please follow the step outline in a FSM when making adjustments. If you have any issues from here on in. Please PM and I will work with you.

Thanks

Thanks - you are probably right, but I'm still somewhat shocked that no one here will do an alignment on car that is older than 1990. It is one of the only things I don't do myself. I rebuilt the entire front suspension myself. Including making bushings for the gearbox to compensate for the smaller bolts of the early K-members, so the box itself won't move or flex.
