I have a 1974 Dart Sport and I’m fairly new to this all over again (it’s been a while). So I’m sure that I’ll need your help a few times. What is this? Do I need it? What hoses tie into it? Thank you for all and any help you have to offer!

That's a vacuum canister to hold vacuum to help run accessories such as power brakes and "all else" that may be vacuum powered. Should have only one vacuum hose attached that runs to a manifold vacuum source. At least I believe that's what it is.

In particular a vacuum canister for the AC and dash controls!

You guys don't know WTF. That is the Chrysler version of the very first prototype of the flux capacitor, only Mopar called it.............

Once again you prove why you are the best!

73+ cars used a vacuum switch on the AC controls. This is an accumulator so there is enough vac to operate them when needed.
Its really not big enough to do anything to help the power brakes.

Is this a real thing?!? I’ve never heard of such a thing!!!!!
Absolutely. It was a "one year only" federal mandated deal. My Gramps had a brand new Dart, nobody knew what to do with them back then. The Dealers finally started unhooking the seat switches under the seat. People raised hell about this. You can imagine, "one of the kids" causes the thing to trip and then if the car stalls in traffic....................

The irony is that I myself now own one. It recently went to 'body shop hell' for roof repair. It's a 74 Scamp. Someone just stripped the wires at the connector and twisted the harness a couple turns and plugged it back in

What a darn nightmare!!! I appreciate the knowledge man.

what is FAR more important to you as a '74 owner, is bypassing the dreaded seat belt interlock reset,

My buddy's Dart Sport had one as well. Quickly disabled when he got it. The contact wires are a larger gauge, if memory serves.

What was really neat, was the fuel-miser thing that would cause the left (?) fender mounted turn indicator to glow if you got on the gas too hard. On a '75 Dart Sport, with the original stock 318. It must have been some sort of vacuum switch.

On my 74 dart sport I just used a jump wire all is good. Only air conditioned cars had vacuum heater controls. Not enough vacuum for power brakes save u self head ache change to manual there is an adjustable pushrod for the master cylinder available
