window tint on classic Mopars

So as many of you know my car is in the shop being painted my painter is suggesting I tint the windows I would like input. I gave him the go-ahead now I'm having second thoughts.
 
The car is or was pretty-much a survivor or at least it was before the paint job it has many original parts. Will be done just like it came out of the factory Sublime with bumblebee stripe and deck Hood. I know it will look great tinted but I was wondering if it actually devalues the car
 
On a related subject he is suggesting that I replace the front windshield it has some small checks .all of my glass is original with Chrysler markings so when I tell him I want to keep the original glass he looks at me like I bumped my head.
 
Leave it original.
No tint back in the day, we toughed it out since we had no choice! Lol
 
One thing to keep in mind, the rear window on a swinger is very hard to tint correctly because its concave. Im sure a professional can handle it but its probably not a DIY thing unless your good with tint.
I actually found some lime green window tint and almost did mine with it. I thought it might look tacky so I chose not to. My windows are factory green tint since it was an AC car.
Always keep original glass if you can. Some of the replacement stuff is inferior. It can be thinner and wont seal properly. The restoration glass seems to be on spec but it can be pricey.

I love my tint! ‘73 Swinger, original paint, top, etc. Helps the a/c out drastically, makes it more comfortable overall, and I personally love the way it looks. I drive my car as much as I possibly can and don’t care what it did to the value. It can come off anytime.

If the OEM glass only has rock impact issues (small divots) and you can live with it go for it. worst case is you replace the windshield down the road. I did just see ECS ECS Automotive Concepts is selling front glass and they will etch the marking into it to match your OEM glass

as for tint. if your desire is to have an OEM correct restoration, no tint other then what OEM could have had (check parts books) is my advice.

Something else to keep in mind... if you ever want to remove it, it can be quite a process.
 
Personally, I like the tint. It just depends on the cars color that sells it for me. Sublime green I think is one of them colors.

You don't have to get limo black, but a nice medium grade would go well I think. As Blind Squirrel mentioned, it can be removed later. The rear window could be difficult to work with. I would think the window would have to be removed for best results. If the window is already out for paint, now is that time.

Here is why you don't tint driver and passenger side windows Its a safety thing. Why? One of the 5 keys of the Smith Driving System. Make sure they see you.

If your at a side street and vehicle is approaching, they can’t tell If your smiling face is looking at them. This is especially important for approaching motorcycles.

Are tinted windows bad ***. You bet! IMHO
 
I don't like dark tint on a classic car so I used a clear UV tint on my '69 Dart.

I found that after I installed A/C, driving with the clear factory non tint windows up, the sun's rays were really beating down on my skin. I noticed a big difference in the sun's intensity inside the car after the clear tint installation.

The tint shop I used has been around for over 30 years and very experienced. They were the only shop in my area able to do the rear window in one piece. They did such a great job that when I went to pick the car up, I thought they hadn't installed the tint yet.

The tint I used is called Solargard UP80.
 
A dull pitted windshield takes away from the looks of new paint. I accidentally cracked the windshield of my 67 fish. End of the day I'm glad it happened. The shinny new glass looks great from inside and out, even though the car was last repainted in 1992.
I don't know how bad your windshield is. Mine had been "against the wind" and elements for 86K miles. If that little OEM marking means so much to you,.. maybe have the glass polished?
 
There was a guy on here that just recently (few months ago) finished up his (67)? gold(?) cuda with tinted windows, and it looked real nice.
 
thank you to everyone who responded. A lot of very good points as usual. I am considering having the two chip repaired and polishing the front windshield but now I am also highly considering changing out the front glass LOL. Whatever I decide I will post the end results
 
I’m going to be paying to have my windows tinted. UV rays are a real thing and, in Florida can make a car’s interior reach in excess of 145 degrees! I’m probably going with something other than the solid dark. They make some that are opaque and clear.. that can offer more heat protection than the darker tints.

I'm doing the ceramic coating on my side glass in my convertible while the glass is out and easy to do(even though it's harder to put back in without scratching it). But I found a company that will make me a charcoal tint rear window plastic for my convertible and am going to order one of them when I get time to install the top. that and A/C should help leep the convertible semi cool in Floridahahellitshot weather.
 
Swingers are a huge pain to tint the rear window. Are there any other mopars with concave glass?

Factory green tinted glass or clear glass....aftermarket tint looks like **** on our classic muscle cars
 
The factory tint came standard on all AC cars. You might be able to find someone who has a complete set of glass from an AC car without breaking the bank. Usually only the windshield has deterioration due to rocks and **** hitting it at 70 mph. New glass isn't as tough as the old stuff and gets pits easier. Also be aware that a lot of new replacement windshields are not as thick as the originals, so you need to make sure the rubber gasket is the right sized slot for the thickness of the glass. I think that AMD sells original thickness windshields.
