I have an NOS dual snorkel scoop that I bought many years ago. Finally decided to use it and put it on my 70 Dart. I started to do mock-up and set the scoop on the hood to see how it would look before drilling any holes and discovered there is about a half inch of gap where the center forward stud is. All of the perimeter holes sit flat on the hood. I then set it on my 71 Duster to see if there was any difference and while the gap decreased to maybe 1/4" there is still a gap. I heard there are 2 versions of the snorkel scoop. Would my scoop be the version for the later Dart Sports? The numbers on it are 3573698 and below it, 3672605.

Actually 3 versions. The part that makes it what it needs to be for your specific application to fit the center peak contour of your hood is the forward center piece held on with Phillips screws. The larger main part of the scoop fits all 3 hoods.

70-72 dart
73-76 duster
73-76 dart sport

I guess I will have to sell my scoop and buy the right one. Can anyone recommend a source that sells the correct scoop for a 70 Dart hood that is of good quality?

Put a "Wanted Ad" here on the site, I'm pretty sure some here has what you are looking for.

I have to disagree on your list.....While there were only 2 bases, one for the basically flat hooded 1972 Demon and one for the "peaked" 1973 Dart Sport (I don't recall if they were an option in 1974.), they were never an OEM option on Dusters. But obviously the can be made to fit other hoods and "look" OEM.

Doesn't the '70-'72 Duster have a wide, raised ridge down the middle which would complicate sealing?

I think there is a looooong "sticky" thread somewhere here on the subject.

69GT - The hood bracing may be the same as newer models and several of the mounting studs will line up or be close to holes in the bracing. I used 2 of the bracing holes on the centerline as a start. Doing the 2 factory approx. 4" holes?

The peaked hood was used on these cars
1969 barracuda
1973-1976 dart.
So even though the hood scoop may have only been offered on 73, if fits the others.

Yes, the 4" holes are what I plan on.

I have one that someone modded to fit something else. Not sure what it originally came off or what it was modded to fit. The demons hood did have the factory holes for the scoop. Got it with a 71 340 demon project. I have a dart sport and some swingers here, guess I could test fit and see if they fit either of them.

'71 Demon would have had the holes further apart for the 2 separate scoops. 1972 was the first year for the factory twin snorkel. But the hoods were flat.

AAR/Stinger Fiberglass here in Florida is where I bought 2 of those scoops from quite a few years ago. Fit & finish was pretty good. I haven't heard anything about them (quality & availability) lately.

AAR Quality Fiberglass

I have been looking around to see who sells the scoop. I'm not seeing any vendors that are differentiating between the two variations of the scoop. They just say 70-76 A-body.

The one i bought that's on the 69 cuda is a universal aftermarket demon scoop off Evilbay. It had the mounts in all the right spots to match with the hood inner structure holes. I think I payed $140 for it. The catch is you have to grind the **** out of it to fit your hood shape, and the openings at the front need to be body worked. Hell the whole thing needs to be reworked a bit to look decent. The price was right though.

Classic industry hood scoop. See the hot mess inside the scoop? Just making sure you are aware of the stuff that's out there. 30 hrs of labor and it came out nice.

What were the original scoops made of and does anyone reproduce them out of that material rather than fiberglass?

I bought mine from Classic. They show one for Dart and one for Duster. It fit pretty good. Had to do a little coping. Mine was a lot nicer looking inside than 72Dart6pPark's scoop.

They were available on the 1974 Dart Sports also. I have a pretty decent one packed away. It was on a mid 70's Mustang II in our local U Pull It. I'm not sure which one I have, I can dig it out and get the part numbers off of it

I had an aftermarket garbage sixpack scoop that was cracked, and falling apart. This one was laying around, i dont even remember where it came from, so i figured i might as well use it. 62s never had any scoop, so i guess it doesnt matter what i use. I do know it is an original mopar part.
