I recently received my short block assembly back from the machine shop and just started checking things over. In that process I found by depth micrometer measurement from the oil pressure sensor hole that the plug under the rear main cap was not installed. In removing and re-installing this cap, is there anything I need to be aware of (other than keeping things clean, re-applying assembly lube and re-torquing in steps), to assure I maintain the main seal integrity? I'll be changing one of the studs at the same time to clear my oil pump.

The rear seal is what I'd be concerned with getting back together right.

If you need a plug....here is one source..the brand is Dorman

take it back and get the guy you already paid to do the job to fix it right .

If you are careful the seal will survive; I have reused seals many tines.
I would take proof pictures and send them to the machine shop manager, and let him deal with his staff.
If he offers to make it right, I would let him. If he doesn't, then I would just install that separator myself.
But now, you are on the hunt for more mistakes. Don't assume that was the only one.

I just got my block back from the shop and would like to check. Do you have a pic of where to measure and what should it be?

The hole you circled is for the distributor clamp bolt and it goes nowhere. The bigger hole to it's right is the oil pressure sender hole and I get about 7.5" on mine.
Thanks. Makes me feel better.

Thanks greg. Interestingly enough, the plug that came in my Dorman "kit" is a #555-009 (versus the 555-008 you referenced). Checking Dorman's website revealed the -008 is roughly .020" smaller as compared to the -009. That seems to validate the -008 as being correct given when I set the -009 at the hole, it's not even close to wanting to start in the hole (even with tapping the driving tool with a light hammer.....)
