Im doing a bunch of metal work on a friends 67 and I have a question about some holes in the spare tire well. Im not familiar with anything pre-70. Are these holes supposed to be there?
Pretty sure the '67's had a single gas tank strap that ran perpendicular to the frame rails, which made it different than the later years that had two straps that ran parallel to the frame rails. Could be wrong though, not a pre-'70 expert either.
Trailer hitch is correct Close them up. The small holes on the side were probably for a bracket to hold trailer harness that was under chassis. They would run them down through the gas tank sender wire grommet hole. That looks to be a late 67 car It has the dual vertical strap mounts which is a good thing. Easier to fit Dual exhaust. Could be a late 383 car
Nope, none of that is supposed to be there. As others have said, prob was for a trailer hitch , and a hitch wiring mount bracket. I woulda thought they would have ran the hitch wiring on the passenger side where there would likely be no exhaust pipe to get it hot. I would beg to differ Steve, it looks like it has the up to 67 spare tire bracket without the integral dual fuel tank strap mount. My guess is its a single sideways strap for the gas tank. Pic below is an exact copy of the 68-76 dual strap spare tire mount I fabricated from sheet steel before AMD started repopping them and selling them for $25 each lol. 68 up has slots cut in these locations for the tank strap brackets to fit
