The wedged look like those used to put a new handle on a hammer.

The big nut might be for a vacuum line or the vac advance can

next time i sell a car, i'm going to put a box of unrelated stuff in the trunk to keep the next owner "busy"...

I wouldn't toss the big nut. There was someone looking for a manifold plug bolt, you should post a photo of the back side and the dimensions

The big nut is probably the nut that holds the brake booster brace to the firewall.

Wow, I actually have a picture that shows it.

LOL. Make sure they are for a different make. Sell a Dodge and put in some Ford and GM parts. Make sure that FOMOCO and GM are not present. Also, toss in a few Lowes parts.

OP, that is the wrong location. BTW, those wedge things do not belong to the car.
The hole you have it in should have a body plug. The brace attaches down lower. I will try to get a pic on my other car as it should be clearer.
kimmer, why do you say that? Looks to be the brace nut to me. Its a special nut that keeps the firewall from flexing.

Circled in red. The nut goes behind the lower booster brace. Its a large hex nut (about 3/4") with small threads (5/16 I think). It gives the brace more surface are so the sheet metal does not crack. Without these two braces that booster really moves around.
It goes just to the left of the oval hole (used for manual trans linkage, plugged for auto)
Pic is of my unmolested 73 340 dart.
