On my small block I have those headers where that one tube goes right across the head. (See picture, its an older picture the only one i have right now showing that side) I have had a few plug wires burn threw lately mostly on cylinder 5 and one on 7. I had wrapped the header tube with the heat wrap and then put a heat tape around the plug boot with those slide over sleeves as well. That worked for awhile but in a weekend #5 burned threw 2 boots. They all have had straight boots on them so im thinking a 90 degree boot.

I've been looking into other options on heat protection until I can swap out the headers so im wondering what has everyone els done with these headers to save plug wires.

I'm wondering if your headers are creating excessive heat.
Is this happening in competition?
Or is this a street-engine?
Are you running a Vcan?
A streeter IMO, HAS to have a v-can. The power timing is only the max WOT timing. For ALL other load and rpm settings, without a Vcan, the timing will be retarded. When this happens the mixture finishes it's burn in the headers. And they get very ,very, hot.
If this is a street engine, Ima thinking your ignition timing is late.

Its a street engine My ignition timing is all mechanical advanced and I havent noticed any issue with how its set timing. Its only burning 5 and 7 i havent had an issue with the other cylinders..

1969VADart. I have those but the dei ones and I may have to try those to see if moroso is any better

Doug 317 I was thinking the 90 degree boots

I run Taylor wires on my 440. I bought some MSD replacement boots (I liked) and crimping tool. I left my wires long so I can change the boots if they get burnt but have been lucky and haven't had to do one yet. Sounds like a 45' or 90' boot may work for you.

MSD 8.5 wires , with adjustable plug ends, wrap them anyway , WORKS.

You have to be careful how you route the wires...

One thing I like to do it use the 67 -68 valve covers that have the spark plug wire clips on the top of the valve cover to secure the wire and help keep it off the exhaust...

90° boots and run them up from below the headers, when did that with my small block never burnt another wire.

I have the same design tubes and used a section of heat wrap folded over 3 times between the wires and tube.
Been like that for years without one burn through.

need a set of tti's or dougs.. :)

if you insist on keep those cheap garbage headers then you'll need a 90* boot or some vari angle boots so that you can loop them around that header tube. never understood why they built such a stupid design.

I do have a set of block huggers im going to put on when I get a chance. I do not like these headers they look like garbage to.
