Rat snakes are not poisonous. We used to encounter them in the chicken coop on a regular basis. Grab one and it will bite you (don’t ask me how I know).

Copperheads are poisonous and are generally 30” or less in length (around here).

The two look so much alike we avoid or kill either one when possible. I have encountered both in the past month (fatal event for the copperhead).

Looking at the above two pictures ... I always wondered about blower belt idler pulleys, where some are placed on the outside of the belt and some on the inside.

Outside like on Garlits cars always seemed to be the 'correct' way.

What do you think?
 
I always liked it better on the outside, it just looks more like it belongs there. I think if you look at modern car's serpentine belts, they are usually set up that way. It may just come down to what there was room for on the initial design 50-60 years ago.
 
On the outside more tension equals more cog teeth engaged. On the inside the tighter the pulley the 'less' cog teeth are engaged and seems like the would be more likely to 'skip' and throw the belt. Plus less vibration/harmonics/heat if the idler is on the 'smooth' side of the belt.

That's how I did mine on the Moroso water pump drive belt.
Home made using a slot car wheel/tire on an 1/8" shaft. ... round and round :realcrazy: lol

That's a nice healthy example ...
They are very shy but ... If you have the patients they are 'trainable' and will spot you on the bank and swim 50 yards to come eat out of your hand.
