360 head choices. What's everyone running?

All these great ideas for a 213* Whiplash that power peaks around 4600? Maybe 4800.

Even if you rev thru the peak to say 5200, how much head can that cam use, considering how the power is rapidly tanking? And how much more power that couldn't be cheaper had with a next bigger cam.
Any cam given a better flowing head will have its power band extended by a few hundred rpm and n the low side. This would be for a low lift and duration cam. Bigger the cam, the more of a benefit.
isn't it pretty well known that the whiplash cam is kind of a gimmick cam to make your car sound good but definitely not what anybody would call a performance cam?...
I agree. It will sound cool and actually make OK power.
I can think of better cams or just simply move the 110 centerline down to a 108.

I kinda liked those cnc Shocker 185 Promaxx heads. The price is acceptable to me.
Wait for the ”Sale.” I used a set on a 360 w/roller rockers. Nice head for the price with room to grow via more porting.
The lift could be 2 inches and it won't make any more power. Lift by itself is not a good yardstick to measure power with.
First sentence, technically incorrect. As long as the head will support the lift, flow the same or more air than The low lift it was at, it will make more power.

Second sentence, I agree.

If you just want a fun weekend bomber, then try a fast-ramp,tight-lash, solid-lifter cam, a 2800 stall, 3.91s; and call it done. Well, I mean, and the usual bolt-ons and support works.
I believe that the choice of the Whiplash is not only the sound but the duration for its intended rpm band. Read his quotes below...

with 1.5 rockers it .480/.512
with 1.6 rockers it .512/.550

that's plenty for a weekend cruiser ..

Agreed with you texas360. AJ, look at the lift and how the head flows.

currently running a cammed 318(225 hp crank), 4 barrel, 2600 stall and 3:55 gears, its a wore out 15 yr old rebuild
If you rebuild it, KB has a flat top and a small domed piston in Hyperutecic. FWIW, I run an 11-1 - 360 around on pump gas with a [email protected] .538/.536 - 110 Hyd. roller and the ProMaxx CNC’d heads with the same stall and 3.55’s on a 26” tire. While it could use more stall and/or gear to maximize the combo, it does drive the interstate.

The top end pull is pretty good and it lasts a while due to the gears. The ProMaxx CNC Shockers that replaced the as cast Edelbrock’s rpm head, definitely feel like there is more power there. There was even a bit more when I switched to a 1.6 rocker. Mild gain though. While 3.90’s or 4.10 would seriously wake this up, interstate travel at 70-75 mph is not in the cards.
