So I paid about 12k for this.appears to be an original formula S.but I don't know a lot about classic cars, let alone mopar.she has a 318 that ran like garbage when I got her.she is getting all body work and a paint job done right now.interior is pretty nice.im replacing the fish fender emblems with 340-s ones.there was only one fish anyway and no holes on the driver fender either.i guess I'm asking if it was worth the 12k.it was actually 4k cash,a 2014 sidexside and 2 rifles.i didn't have 12k in cash and the seller was the only local fastback seller that would do a trade.its an itch iv been wanting to scratch for a few years now.thanks in advance!

Oh yeah.she needed 2 half quarter patches, half floor patch,a wiring harness and about a grand worth of engine work.a few odds and ends too but it will not be missing anything

The guy that's doing the body work, looked at a 69 mopar color code sample online and thinks my car was originally citrine gold poly.we work at a factory together so the car wasn't in front of him.i can't find any online pics of a 69 this color.it sucks that there is no fender tag or build sheet.was that a 69 original color?

I'm not saying it's not worth it but personally I wouldn't pay 12K and have to do that much work to an a body...

I'm excited to get it done, hopefully by october.its not supposed to be over 6k for the patches and paint.looks like the original color was saddle bronze.i kinda like it but am leaning toward scorch red or bahama yellow.im happy with the car.i didn't know about this site when I bought it.he was the only barracuda seller that was interested in trading for guns and a side by side.found out that the doors are from an originally white doner car too.there was 2 inch thick glass in the driver's quarter jamb.its cool to bring something back from the brink.well, pay for it at least

Would be a Y6 on the second row up from bottom on the fender tag. Good buy, depending on the value of the rifles.
Sadly there is no fender tag.i wish I had it!.i do think I over paid but I don't mind.according to the local mopar guys,I have the only 2nd gen fastback in the area!

Since you were ok departing with your money for the car, it is OK!
was it worth it to you? don't second guess your decision now, what's done is done! Go scratch that itch!
This is exactly it right here.

Look on the drivers door jamb on the body in the middle near the hinges. The VIN is there. You may find out some information there. While no fender rag, it may shed some light.

My question is this;
No build sheet/ no fender tag/ no vin; but you say it appears to be an original Formula S 318 car. How did you figure that out?
I don't have a fender tag.i do have the vin.its an original 340 car with a 318 in it.isnt that the vin in the registration I posted the pic of?sorry for the confusion.

I am 100% novice on this stuff and unsure on many things.the only reason I assume it's possibly a real formula S is because the very warn black trunk trim with S badge, black grille screens (which both could have been added by someone) ,it was a 340 and the H in the vin.BUT I don't know squat about these things. What does high price class really mean anyway?is premium a "cuda"?I would like to learn these things.i read stuff on google and on here.thats about it

Itll be a 340 again some day lol.or a 360.wichever I find first when I save enough paychecks to build one!!

Look in the lost and found. Ur block may be there. Ask the guy u got it from. He may know something about it. Kim
The guy I got it from got it on a trade from another guy for a ranchero.iv asked him for his contact info but no luck.he said the guys a hermit.he showed me pics of the other guys garage and he had a couple 69 cudas.one was lime green with aar stripes.pretty cool looking.iv never thought about looking for the original block.good idea, ill look!thanks

Congrats, and welcome to the club.
In 1969, the 340 was available in packages other than the Formula S. It could also be part of the 'Cuda package, or just ordered as an optional engine.
See the footnotes under the engine specs.

If the V8 fender emblems look original, I'd be inclined to think you have a Barracuda with a 340, not a Formula S or 'cuda 340, because they each had their own emblems.
Thanks to @Alaskan_TA there's a lot to read on Hamtramck Historical.

Look for build sheet under rear seat trapped in springs or behind glove box. If you find one, check it vs vin number.

Wow!!thanks for this!!!great info!!I'm not sure if the single fish is original.it has nice rubber studs that screw on the back end.the fenders definitely are not original either.S or not, such cool cars!

sure does decode as a 340 car, the damage is done at this point though as you're not likely to find the original #'s engine (never say never but..) so it's a non numbers matching 69 Barracuda with a hole in the hood, that needs work ~~ you and 100's like you! 318's are GREAT street engines and it appears that the one you have has been modified.. I say freshen things up as needed, do the body up and get it squirted whatever color works for you (if you want to make it look original, do it) and enjoy YOUR car. If you get lucky someday and do find the original 340 THEN maybe consider spending the time and money to do a proper restoration.. for now though, it sounds like you're on the right track, save the car!

save yourself the hassle of going with the smaller 340 engine
you can get a running 360 magnum from LKQ for 800 with a warranty
more cubes, less money and no need for zinc
