High amp alternators

Not sure how an injured battery can keep an alternator from putting out power, I’ve put a multi meter to the output stud while the engine is running at various RPM, but just for science purposes, I tried the yellow top optima out of my truck that I know is good. Nothing changed. The battery in the car is a regular red top optima, and has always been recharged with an optima charger. The alternator was working fine a few days ago, then suddenly stopped charging one morning.

A battery with a shorted cell acts like a huge gigantic load. It is HARD on alternators. You can actually ruin an alternator by jumping a dead battery say, in the winter and then depending on the alternator to recharge. I can burn up a good alternator.
