Did I do ok on this?

B - Caravelle, Barracuda
H - High

P - 340-4 1968-69
9 - Last digit of year
B - Hamtramck
sure does decode as a 340 car, the damage is done at this point though as you're not likely to find the original #'s engine (never say never but..) so it's a non numbers matching 69 Barracuda with a hole in the hood, that needs work ~~ you and 100's like you! 318's are GREAT street engines and it appears that the one you have has been modified.. I say freshen things up as needed, do the body up and get it squirted whatever color works for you (if you want to make it look original, do it) and enjoy YOUR car. If you get lucky someday and do find the original 340 THEN maybe consider spending the time and money to do a proper restoration.. for now though, it sounds like you're on the right track, save the car!
Yessir!I found a whole metal 69 hood that's getting painted with the car.i saved the Holy hood to put a scoop on some day and paint it black.figure it'll be like an accessory.put an intake and carb on the engine.had to replace a couple lifters but she's running great!the car is at the body shop now getting almost all new metal and a paint job.the interior is surprisingly in great shape.got a new carpet and full floor pan too.the floor patches im having replaced were made of road signs and license plates!!! they were welded on with metalclear caulk.should have seen the ice sicles hanging underneath!!

save yourself the hassle of going with the smaller 340 engine
you can get a running 360 magnum from LKQ for 800 with a warranty
more cubes, less money and no need for zinc
I just screen shotted your post cause I'm buying one soon!!!I put money in the 318 cause I figured it'll just bolt up to a 360 when I got one.had one lined up to buy from a guy at my shop but he was mistaken and it turned out to be another 318.i got that roller coaster feeling in my chest when I read "800 for a 360"!!I can't wait!!!thank you sir!!!

make sure you post pics when you get it :)

if i remember correctly, all you need is one motor mount, a flex plate and a torque converter
everything else should switch over

Old patch job.the plate is from 2015 so it is a newer resto haha

R U fixing that more proper like?
I'm going to get a newer license plate and a whole street sign lol.yes I got a full floor pan for her.got a whole drivers quarter and a passenger quarter skin.other stuff I can't remember.the guy doing it works 3rd shift at my shop and I'm on days.he keeps me posted but I don't go over much cause that's his sleep time and he's got a family.after I build a larger garage next year,I want to tinker with stuff.maybe get a notchback

Oh I know the overnight 3rd shift for the last 30 years well enough. All day to do what ever IF your awake and feeling OK. Speaking of which.... good night....

My 68 Formula S weighs in at 3450 me not in it. That's a lil porky for a 340 never mind a 318. You can make any combo work, just by using the right combo of stall and gears. But with smaller engines, you may not be happy with the sacrifices you have to make.
If you start with a bigger engine, there are fewer sacrifices that you HAVE to make, and they become options.
For example; a 360LA falls together at about 10.7 Scr with 63cc chambers. Very little machining required.
BTW,
my combo already sports a few lightweight pieces; Like alloy; heads/intake/4-speed trans case/wheels, a mini-starter, no spare, and no rear seat.
The heavy stuff is; the exhaust system; TTIs and dual full-length 3" pipes with 3in/3out dynomax muffs, a GVod, power-steering, PDB, and a real battery.
The bonus is, the weight distribution is down to about 52% front heavy.

If I could sell 'em cheaper, I would!

I can tell ya my 10.30's dart would run 7's if it was a Camaro :p
The $$$ difference is sad but true.

I wish I would have started with mopar.i just bought my first classic car 3 years ago.it was a divorce present to myself.once the big garage is up,I think it could get almost out of control.a dart is on my list!

Just got bad news.the right quarter panel and inner wheel well is packed full of glass.hes ordering a full quarter today.she won't be done till next year now.since the rear glass is coming out,I'll get new glass.the glass in there now has a deep scratch.its gonna be a long winter!!

:BangHead::BangHead: there goes a lot of that 12k... I would be contacting the previous owner with a :poke::poke: :wtf: :elmer:

..not that it'll do any good because a deal is a deal and you own it now.. but that is BS and I would run it up the BS pole! :bs_flag:

I just texted the guy just to let him know.im sure it don't matter.he only owned it for a few weeks before I bought it.he does own a large scale body shop soooo,he may or may not have known the extent of the mud.my body guy is very experienced and didn't know about the right quarter till it got sanded down.said it looks like different owners patched different quarters by the way they were done.i guess it makes the car more personal I guess...iv got to find a pic of a bahama yellow fastback.cant find one anywhere on the net.iv got a while but I need to choose a color.maybe "cuda" clone her too.i like those stripes

So its the sellers fault you didn't bring a magnet when looking at a 50 year old car?

LOL no, but I do wonder if maybe he didn't take advantage of the OP some...... maybe

its not impossible, but the seller took it in on trade, so he only owned it for a little while
who knows how many owners it had before then, and if only ONE of them didnt bring the magnet, then every one who owned it after him might have thought it was all steal

if that happened to the seller, he could have been sincere and still wrong
not trying to take advantage of the OP, but things like that happen

i dont know, just thinking out loud

I'm not suggesting he sue the guy, just that an inquiry with a :poke::poke::wtf: wouldn't hurt

But it doesn’t help. If you know it isn’t going to help, then why say it? It’s a waste of time and effort to even pick up the phone.

He seemed like a stand up guy with a lot of projects sitting around.i mean LOTS of finished and unfinished 3rd generation barracudas and so much more.he had it a couple weeks.i magnet tested and it seemed solid, though I'm no expert.i figured it would be some patches.not 2 whole quarters.i own that I'm inexperienced.we are still in contact.he has gun and land questions and I have car questions now and again.i thought I gave him one too many aks to begin with .now I know I did!iv been updating him on progress so I just let him know the extent of things.for the record.im not blaming him and I never said it was his fault.its done and im going to bring it back to great condition and make it mine!I don't plan on selling it in the future anyway.
