its not impossible, but the seller took it in on trade, so he only owned it for a little while
who knows how many owners it had before then, and if only ONE of them didnt bring the magnet, then every one who owned it after him might have thought it was all steal
if that happened to the seller, he could have been sincere and still wrong
not trying to take advantage of the OP, but things like that happen
