Hi,
Couple questions on oil;

- I have a 3 speed manual trans, what oil should I use? Should it be used with slick50 as well?

- I have and 8 3/4 rear, 741 sure grip, 3:23 gears, what oil should I use and should I add some sort of friction lube for the Posi traction?

Thanks in advance.

rear axle 80-90 with the additive for the sure grip

Factory service manual says 90w or ATF depending on temperature.

I use the mopar additive in the sure grip. 4318060, and some like the Ford axle additive, I think you can get at the auto parts

Buy a quality oil and FORGET the additive.

If the oil needs an additive it’s JUNK.

That’s not 100% true... some rears require additional additives than what will be in even in very high quality oils. Companies will put the amount in that will work with the majority of posi style rears and it’s always easier to add more additives if the rear needs it than to remove just additives.

My bad. I should have been a bit more clear.

I was referring to the gear box lube specifically, were the OP mentioned Slick 50.

And I didn’t comment on the rear axle lube, but I should have. You are correct. If you have an LSD you need some kind of additive for that. I consider that completely different from using some additive as a supplement to the gear oil in an effort to improve the oil.

Really, all gear oils should have the LSD modifier in them but the vast majority of axles never had an LSD so the manufacturer’s don’t put it in.

It doesn’t hurt to have the LSD additive in the oil if you don’t have the LSD or if you are using it in a gear box.

I prime example of the use, I done a 30 Model A with the mopar drive line. I did not put in the additive into the 8 3/4, started the car, while on jacks, and heard a loud sequel coming from the rear axle. Added the additive, and the noise went away, car is still running

Would you want to state the brand oil(s) you used? Thanks.

If you find a GL-5 spec 80W-90 with limited slip additive already in it, you can use it for both your trans and differential. It will say for use with limited slip differentials right on the container. If you get some rear end chattering, you can add a little more of the lsd additive. It shouldn't take much with a healthy diff. You don't want to put in too much.
Brand isn't especially important. The stuff you need isn't fancy, so any brand will do. A quick search turned up Castrol, Kendall, and Valvoline with LSD additive readily available local to me. If price is a concern, check out the gallon of Super Tech at Walmart. Super Tech tests very well, but if you stick with the major brands, you can't go wrong.
