Bronze gear necessary??

This topic is interesting to me...as I'm lining up what I want to use in my engine. I have a Bullet steel solid roller cam...I called them last week and they said to use a bronze gear. I have a new one, so it's not hard to do.

I asked about the non-bronze gears (such as the newer OEM roller cams use) and they said 'use bronze' but I gotta be honest...I didn't specifically ask about melonized gears and I don't think they had much experience.

I've used bronze in the past...I never had any issues but there's no doubt they wear way faster than stock.

So to reiterate....some of you guys are running the Crane melonized gear (PN 69970-1) on a steel roller cam and it holds together?

Yes, I do. No problems.
Billet core + crane coated steel/melonized gear I put on a mp hardened shaft.
I personally stay away from bronze in street motors..and since the crane gear came out have passed on them .

To each his own, but let's keep it grounded.
