Can a wiped cast crank thrust bearing be repaired?

Depends how bad it is. Often times in no oil situations or high pressure situations like you have, the soft bearings actually transfer aluminum material to the crankshaft, making it look pretty nasty.

The fact is you can polish that transfered material back off of the crank (it is softer matetial than the crankshaft) with some 240 grit emery paper and WD-40 for lubing and washing the emery paper clean. Final polish with some Crocus Cloth for the final smooth finish.

Once you get the transfered material off of the crank, if the crank itself is not scored from the Thrust pressure, you should be good. Put in the new bearings and give it a roll.

If the crank Thrust area is still scored a replacement crank is probably in order.
