Agreed - and I'll add "...or a cut off wheel and chisel."
It never got hot enough to glow. But there are areas that got higher localized temps than I'd ever want to see in a hardened part. If that was a repair to get things rolling again I'd run it and see what happens. If it bent you'll know it. If this is a performance car that's going to get some abuse, I'd probably replace it.
 
Mike....what axle is that? If it’s a stock 8 3/4 A body axle, I can fix you right up! I have a onesie I would gladly give you if that’s what it is. The one I have is 27 7/8 from wheel mounting flange to end of axle, has RH 7/16 wheel studs, and the bearing is already removed. I robbed the adjuster for an E body years ago. Bearing surfaces and splines look good, but it could use a good soak in vinegar for a day or 3.

Doing great, thanks. I was hoping that it would work for you. Measure from the wheel side of the flange, to the end of your boogered up axle. I have a set of B body axles, but there were 2 or 3 different lengths between 65 and 70 model 8 3/4's. I can check to see if mine are the same, and hook you up if they are.

Here are a couple pictures as an example of what a grinder does to a spindle by somebody that doesn't know how to take off a frozen bearing.

I would say between the grinder and their hammer and chisel they did a pretty good job of screwing up the Seal surface and the spindle surface where the bearing rides. All because they didn't know how to do it correctly. They are what I call a Hammer Mechanic.
 
Used to say you can messt things up with a torch and an air chisel if you dont know what youre doing. yes, if removing a bearing race it gets cut then rapped with a chisel to split it the walked off with an air chisel.
 
Sometimes when I see guys using heat to remove something I want to grab the torch out of their hands. First of all we aren’t burning it off so a nice, calm, quiet torch setting is used. Just crack the oxygen on and adjust the flame. Heat goes ONLY on the part being removed. Not the part you are pulling it off of. It’s probably only a .001 shrink fit at the most.
