800cfm on mild 360 ?

Ok. So then you have no idea what the actual best carb is, because you haven’t actually tuned them on your car. You bolted it on and didn’t bother fine tuning.

I haven't fine tuned the 800. To this point the actual best carb for my car is the Ede 650, like I stated earlier in my thread.

Not what your doing, but I have noticed something funny about my 800 thunder series. Over years of playing with it I have ended up at 4 stages rich in front and four stages lean in the secondaries. So you would think I could bring them both back to stock setting and I would be fine. OH no! It really doesn’t like that!!!! So I thought it has to be the timing of when it needs the high fuel load. Nope, my secondaries are open when I’m staged.

a friend has a 408 and tried different carbs. No amount of tuning and jet changes have gotten rid of rich idle and cruise readings on any of the bigger carbs. I think he settled on a 650

AFAI Recall,, Carter rated their 4bbl carbs, differently from the way Holley rates theirs, And if that is true, then you cannot directly compare the two. I used to know the conversion factor, but sorry, it fell out of my memory banks..

The Thermoquad secondary air valve can be adjusted from mild to wild, and that is why you can install it on almost any V8, with good results. I try to use TQs on everything I own. They have very nice Primary Boosters.

Would I install an 800 onto a 340? IDK but if it had a factory or bigger cam, then it sure wouldn't be a shiney metering-rod carb.

I'm happy, very happy, with the 750DP on my street 367. If I was to go bigger, I think it would have to be a spread-bore. But Like said, I'm happy at 750.

Bad timing on my part to start this 800 thread.
I have so much stuff going on, time is scarce. On top of that, 110deg days in Cali, make for miserable days in the garage.
Way to hot to be tunning a car. I will revisit this in the fall.

Agree with AJ on the thermoquad , just where to find one in good condition these days . 850 Thermoquad was the best carb I had back in the day
