Just wondering if anyone ever installed one of these? This is a project car for my daughter. I heard leave the ballast resister some say get rid of it. Some say you need to run another wire others say just tie into it at the resister, it still hasn’t got here but I want to be prepared I suppose I could call the company, but maybe someone on here has done it before, the motor is a318 and I found out tonight it has a sure grip 7/1/4 which I hear is kinda rare I know it clunks a little from drive to reverse hoping it’s just u joints, thanks guys for any help.

I use to run pertronix points eliminator, kept the ballast hooked up, pretty reliable but always keep a spare cause you never know!

I have one in the dart and valiant. No issues. Kept the resistor.

If you want to remove the resistor you'll need to get a low ohm coil, Pertronix 45011 is .6 ohm

I kept my resistor for awhile, then when I did an engine swap decided to eliminate one more piece that could go bad.

Like said above, budget for a replacement Pertronix Igniter to have in the glovebox. I keep an extra one and a set of points in a bag in the car.

And I love how the Pertronix performs.

Thanks for the reply I did get their coil also, so the red wire from there kit goes on the upstream side of the resister and the black on the coil? I think I’ll just leave the resister for now I have a spare, I’m not thinking in my application I would see much difference removing it would I.

Yes, red goes to full 12 volts. Probably wouldn't see much difference.

What is the part number of the coil you got from them?

Off of the coil that’s on there right now there is a little capacitor connected to it right by the coil any idea what that is. I’m not sure if it’s a capacitor it looks like it though about3/4” by 1/1/2” long

If it's connected to the + coil side it's a radio noise suppressor. Helps clean the sound from the speakers. I don't even know if you can still buy them!!! Not required. I've heard people having issues when they go bad, don't know. Never ran one.

Keep your resistor while using that coil. It's 1.5 ohm.
Thanks again I’ll keep the resistor, crazy how you knew what that little thing was so your thinking just remove it? My daughters car is like a time capsule right down to the factory radio that works just fine I couldn’t believe it.

That's awesome! Hard to find something like that nowadays. These cars were beautiful as designed. I keep mine "mostly" stick looking. The only difference outside are the wheels. Inside I added a tach and water and oil pressure gauges, but other than that it is factory looking... because I replaced carpet and seat covers with factory looking replacements.

I'm a rookie compared to many members here. Heck, there is even folks here who worked at the factory building these cars!!!!

If you have any pictures of her car, post them up for us to see!!

Your daughter is a very lucky girl to have a car like that!! But, from the smile on her face she knows how lucky she is.

She is ,but she paid for everything herself by just saving, for years we were going to do a vw bug but about 6 months ago that faded away I can honestly say I’m kinda happy about that, nice thing is she still has about 2 years till she gets her liscense so we have time to work the bugs out

So I follow fig3, and I’m guessing I would hook it to the blue wires? Also how have you guys did this just soldered a wire to make the red wire long enough

I'm not familiar with the newer model wiring. You want full 12v to the Pertronix. Someone will chime in.

To connect you can use a piggyback terminal like this.

We are going to start on the new parts when I get off nights on Wednesday
