I have a cracked head on my '65 Charger 273. I have some 302 heads I could use to replace the original ones. What would be a decent intake to throw on since I can't use the original with the 302s without machining? Thanks

None most probably. The LDB would be an ez intake to use.

There are earlier threads about late model heads conflicting with your early model exhaust manifolds. Some grinding required. Of course if you have headers you can ignore that.
4 barrel intakes that match the early heads bolt/angle are a bit rare. Intakes that match the later model heads bolt/angle are plentiful.

I've got the manifolds off so that's easy enough to experiment with.

The LD4B is the best fit if you can find one to go with the 302 heads. Small port runners, square bore.

Check Ebay.

Yep looking for easy right now, not necessarily any upgrade in performance. Just need to get this thing road worthy and legal.

If you are in a super hurry and have a stock 318 cast iron intake available, you can use the Mr Gasket #1933 2 to 4 bbl adapter (20 bucks at Advanceautoparts)

If you are running a 2 bbl then that 2 bbl cast intake would work too.

At least the cast intakes have the small port runners like the 302 heads. We port match the 302 heads to the Felpro intake gaskets for the 302s.

Pictured above 1974 318 cast iron Dual Plane 2 bbl intake manifold. Dual Planes run nicer than the single planes, better low end torque.

Felpro 1243 intake manifold gaskets work well for the 302 heads, small ports.

I’ve got a 2 bbl intake and carb from a 318 but I’ve been running an eddy 1406 on the original cast intake. Prefer to stay that way. But don’t think it would all fit under the hood with that adapter. I’ll check out the aluminum intakes for price. I have an ld4b but it’s in the barracuda now.

Even a 360 iron intake will work. MOPAR said F the port mismatch on the 318 4bbl E48 police package...or did they sneak some 360 heads on that motor?

I think they ran 360 heads. But we know the port mismatch will work for a 318 on a general HP engine.

Years ago I put a set of 302's down on a Charger 273, stock valve sizes, heads cut .030, used a Holly Street Dominator intake, worked good.

I would think you would lose compression ratio with the 302s. The 273 had rather small closed chambers. The correct head would be 920 IIRC. Unfortunately the supply of 920s is falling victim to cracks. When I was rebuilding my Commando the original heads and the first 3 replacements I found all had cracks. So I can understand what you're doing.

Yeah, 302's I have in the garage. And the point is to get the car moving rather than sit in the garage. Performance isn't really the issue right now.

I'd use the '66-7 273 4bbl intake as my #1 choice. That way you can use your stock carb and choke without having to modify or adapt anything. 2nd choice would probably be a Holley Streetmaster or similar low profile so there is not problem with hood clearance. You probably will have to grind at least on the driver's side 302 head to get the manifold to seat against the exhaust port. do it while both head and manifold are on the bench. Grind just enough for clearance. I'd use a fairly thick gasket so I didn't have to grind too much.

Edelbrock made the street master, single plane small runner low rise.
Edelbrock also made the sp2p, dual plane micro runner pos that keeps it from making more than 250 hp.
Holley made the Street Dominator and the strip dominator. They both worked very well.
Fwiw Casting number 920 heads have about a .67 cc Chamber The last set I picked up were redone once and they came out to 66.5cc. So that tells you they had to be bigger from the factory. Now wither or not all years of those of heads are 67cc
Is a good question. Always check.

I don't recommend running adapter plates from two Barrel to 4 Barrel, ultimately it will only flow what a 2 Barrel flange allows it to and not realize the full cfm potential of the four barrels.

You're correct of course. I got my brands/models mixed. The idea is to get a low profile intake for the early A-bodies unless you want to start cutting the hood. Even one of those old Offenhauser dual ports will work, though the flow isn't the greatest.

I have the sp2p for my 67 HP273. Little performance difference from the stock cast iron intake. Improved low end torque being dual plane. Wont take much to make it look about like the OEM cast iron. Thats the one thing I dislike about Performer and the like, castings shot full of water port holes.
