Orphan Part 2 .... Yikes!!!

I had an engine like that. Was a 360 with 340 pistons in it that I built as a nineteen year old back in the mid seventies, based on the Hoovers mover article but what I failed to know was thwe pistons were 10.5 to one 340 pistons and should of been 9.5 to one variety instead. Well I had to put home made water injection on it and run fifty percent 110 octane race gas in it to stop it pinging. Ran real strong , 13.5 sec qtrs. on street tyres even with the std 360 cam in it. Later on I pulled it apart and had the pistons cut down further and put a small cam in it and it ran real good and stopped the pinging so I deleted the home made water injection and was all good again. With the lower comp and small cam ran excactly the same qtr mile times as before.

I have 4 roller cam era small blocks that I am working on right now. I just went out and checked to see if the head bolt holes went to the water jacket, but they were all blind. I have seen sbc's have that when the builder didn't put sealer on the head bolts. So you are good there. How were the intake gaskets at the water ports?

Are you suggesting I eat it ???

I wouldn't eat it, but you could maybe shave with it....

Water ports looked like they were sealed.
I was going to put it on cup cakes and bring them to work :)

This is the exact kind of youboob space that is a total waste.. absolutely no helpful information except for some guy thinking we're so it impressed by his life that we're going to watch him eat chips and drink lemonade..
I want that 2 and 1/2 minutes of my life back dammit LOL..
if I pulled the valve cover and it had that much water in it the entire engine would be on an engine stand already...

Plan to see if I can pull the pan in the van tomorrow.... looks like I can.. I hope.

Might have to take engine mounts loose and raise the engine 1 inch to get the pan slipped past the crank. Did that on a truck with success. Just jacked the engine up, and blocked it up the 1" at the engine mount bolts. Then you got the jack out of the way to do the work safely.

*UPDATE
Removed the rockers/pushrods/lifters/cam. This is what if found so far:
About 6 or 7 of the lifters had the oil hole pointing down, and that would account for all the noise on start ups. Out of time for today, I'll pull the oil pan tomorrow.

P.S. - the comp cam looked good... it will be for sale shortly along with the bronze gear/intermediate shaft :)

What cam is that?

Nice research digging up those cam specs. Was wondering what that long snout roller cam was.

Good to know that something like that is available for the roller cam engines with the long snout so you can run the eccentric for the manual fuel pump too.
only... it wasn't a long snout.

Oh, I thought it was when looking at the cam installed with your timing cover off. Guess it just looked like the long snout with the gear off, but not.

Thanks for pointing that out.
I was surprised when i pulled it apart myself. The one I'm putting it has the long snout. I couldn't believe it actually had the eccentric on it and it was a TBI. Never know I guess....

Yeah, some had the eccentric and some didn't. Glad you got lucky there, now you will have a nice running van there with 4bbl and manual fuel pump.

Would a simple block heater work to keep out moisture. I bet up north your having dramatic swings in temps. Cool mornings mix with warm days. Those blocks have condensation big time. We know you have a nice fleet so they don’t get driving as much as they should. Love those little roller motors what a keeper.
