What are u guys twisting ur 500'' strokers to ?
I got all over mine today, it was on the 6200 rev limiter before I could shift it , think I`m going to raise it to 7000 . Its race balanced ''by hughs'' , with a 600 lift solid street roller .

That's a lotta weight and money slingin around at 7K.

The one I built for my buddy in Washington St. twist his to 7000 all the time, and that's after I bitched at him for twisting it to 8500. But it does have Bill Miller aluminum rods and it spins up real fast. 11:1 and .600 lift custom cam.

Thanks , I dont mean that I`ll run it to 7000 all the time , just dont want it cutting out at 6200 .

Rev it until it explodes, note failure RPM. Rebuild, and set rev limiter 500 RPM lower than previous failure RPM.

Retired yes, thank God.

I love all you guys.........but I have archery practice every morning and archery elk season opens in a week.

I have noticed that the automotive forums are less vicious among disagreeing respondents than the hunting forums. So keep up the good work.

Yep ... 1 week till opener . Been shooting a bit but probably should work on my bugling.
Looks like the temps will drop for next week . My hunt isnt until the 3rd week in Sept .

Go mild and BIG like we have, max hp is@6000, huge torque@4400..last forever.....mid to low 10's@3828 race weight through the muffs and drive it anywhere...of course if thats too slow for ya stick it in a 3200lb A-bod and go 9.5's.

All depends on the parts used. A solid roller with a good valvetrain and good parts in the shortblock shouldn't have any problem with a 7000 rpm redline. You would need to get it on a dyno to know where the power peak is though. With standard port heads the power peak will be way lower than 7000 rpm. With MW heads you might still be making power at 7000 rpm depending on how big the cam is and how big the carb is. My 514 with the ported EZ heads would make 900 hp at 6900 rpm but that engine spent a lot of time on the dyno. I had at least a hundred dyno pulls on that engine combination.

900 ! I`m sure mwuays is not close to that ! Computer programs (not dyno) , says 761 after going to smaller cam for the fuel inj. map readings.
little larger than standard cnc ports,"not max wedge" , victor knock offs, flowed 354 @.600. raised my initial timing to 24 , 505 likes it .
Just figured out this morning , my rack and pinion is worn pretty bad too---------------always somethin !
Andy ,have u run the 1/4 in the duster yet ??

LOL...This place is a day care center compared to some of the gun forums I hang at.

Victor knock offs with standard sized ports will have the max power lower than 7000 rpm on top of 500 inch shortblock. Peak might be down around 6200 or there abouts. You can safely rev it higher but it will most likely be laying over after 6500 rpm. You can get it on a chassis dyno to test it.
