I have a 02 360 that came out of a van with approx. 150,000 miles. I started taking it up removing intake, exhaust and heads. With all the talk of cracked heads is there any physical way to tell if the heads are cracked. There was no water on any pistons and all seem to have an even coating of carbon. At this point I don't know if I will reuse them or go with an aftermarket aluminum head. Will the aluminum heads allow me to use 340 exhaust manifolds? I'm not an advocate of headers due to the problems they create, longevity installing grief etc. . Thank you in advance for any help.

And many of the cracked heads still work fine. How deep are these cracks and can they be fixed with a new seat?

Thanks for the info, I was thinking probably leaking water into the cylinders. I'll tear them apart later this week and give a look.

I have one in my 01 Ram that's got 185,000 miles and if it has cracks it sure doesn't affect anything.
I also just put a 360, 115,000 in my B body Charger, I didn't check for cracks and it runs fine too.
I used the Chargers original 318 exhaust manifolds, so I think your 340 ones should work fine. You just need to address the heat exchange valve flapper thingy (if yours have one).
Good luck

So I finally got to take heads apart and there are no cracks visible to my old eyes. Again thanks for the info.
