waiting on a thingamabobber to clean on the kickdown cable
then ima take her out for a few spins to see if the kickdown works as intended again

Changed the speedo gear from 38 to 39 tooth, and the gear lube to Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid. Now the Autometer speedometer reads right and the A833 is easier to shift.

Today it was low 80's so I decided to see what's up with my cooling system. The non-adjustable temp switch kicks the Contour fans on at 198 and off at 192... would like to find one that's more like 192/185. Anyhow, either temp is not a problem while idling (and if I lock the fans on, it will stay on the stat at 183 when the ambient temp is 80 or less).

But while driving 25-30 mph, or on the highway at 55-60, it wants to heat up until the fans come on at 198. On a hot day they won't shut off again since it stays around 194. Unless the Contour fans are a significant obstruction while free-wheeling, the problem has to be not enough flow or not enough radiator. Over on Moparts they recommend a good high-flow thermostat before chasing expensive radiators, and I plan to try that.

Anyhow it always stays below 200 even on a 94F day and I don't often take it out for a cruise in that kind of oven temps (no air conditioning!). I just want the t-stat to be the sole determinant of the system temp, as it is supposed to be (except while idling, which is up to the electric fans and their thermostat switch).

I also found that I'd forgotten to install the appropriately rated (80 amp) ice cube relay with heavy supply wiring... I'd just patched in a standard 30 amp one for a quick test when I installed the fans, and forgotten about it :realcrazy: Luckily, nothing melted or burned up, but the relay was definitely on its last legs. As an EE you'd think I'd know better... I wired in the proper relay before doing anything else!

Got the rims sandblasted. And checking to see they fit my rear disk brakes. And the answer is? Wait for it...........Yes they do. :)

I gotta say, I'm really liking @DentalDart steelies. They look like those custom 17" or greater aftermarket wheels. I'd definitely run them on a dart, or duster, or a demon.

Thanks! They are just 15in stwelies off an 88 dodge diplomat. My daughter and I sanded then painted them with spray paint, which of course they need to be redone again because they are flaking in some spots. Yea what a surprise... I fucked something easy up lol.

No. Sometimes you have to live on the edge. :)
Nice edit :poke:

I thought about the oil leak from the right-side timing cover/pan/block area... but it was just too hot and humid to jack it up and start messing with brake cleaner and oil drips. So I ordered a high-flow thermostat... and that's it ;)

Ordered fuel lines from mech pump to carb.

Then started working on the console spray bomb... ugh. I mean the console "restoration..." little bit of sanding, priming and spray of the metallic silver... also used some plastic bond on the 2 small cracks (scratches were already there), I'll sand and paint that tomorrow.

Edit- ps carpet tape doesn't work to well holding the carpet on... im probably going to use 3m glue spray crap this next time around. Also added picture of pre-restorstion console.

Sealing up the undercarriage of my rust free 2003 Grand Caravan.

17 years old and running strong. Hope to get another additional 17 years out of it yet. That will put us at the year 2037 . . .

Went to get .025 welding contact tips and thin sheet metal to practice welding before I attempt to replaced damaged body panels on my Duster. Finally installed the gun, wire, regulator, gas supply hose on my Hobart Handler 140 welder.

Well yesterday I made from a 4" round 8-1/4 long Slug of T6061 Billet (aluminum) a ~Heat~ Shield for my dual bowl Master Cylinder in my 65 `cuda.. sure made for a lot of chips... but I think it was worth it...

Ordered a Milodon high-flow 180F thermostat and the proper fuel level sender for my 10 gal. cell from Summit on Sunday evening. Got them this afternoon (less than 2 days) :)
I swapped senders which took five minutes. But it's too hot to drain the coolant, put the t-stat in and fill it back up

This morning she’s trailered and ready to visit the alignment shop, after getting her new front end. When she’s back, I’ll start on the power steering mod in order to tighten up the steering.

took that whole fuel sending unit apart again
(it was the return nipple that was leaking)

slathered it in permatex 4 , made sure i got it as tight as possible and put it all back together
i wont know untill i fill her back up if it did the trick or not...but if it didnt, im out of ideas
I'm not sure what "permatex 4" is, but for fuel, use the Permatex that's made for it. #85420 "PermaShield".

i had to double check, i used no.3, not 4
(but it came in a 4 ounce can)

it is also fuel resistant...and it worked
so im good

but thanks for the heads up anyways
