Rebuilt Edelbrock, yea or nay

-
Pay attention to how it comes apart, lay the components out in a orderly fashion, and read the instructions to adjust and assemble it. Kind of like putting a model car together. Cleaning of course goes into the mix.

That, and its Free !!!!!!
Nothing to lose here. Lol

Not rocket science.. you put it together the same way it took it apart except for with the new parts that they give you... A good kit comes with instructions..
Three-quarters of the guys that have posted including myself can walk you right through it..
I more or less agree. I know that carbs can be rebuilt, but I haven't had much luck. I consider myself to be an excellent mechanic. I rebuild engines, I rebuild 4 speed transmissions, I rebuild suspensions, I converted my car from an automatic to a 4 speed, I added AC to my car, etc. However, I have not had much luck rebuilding carbs.

Well, I’ll give it my best shot!

I've done all that stuff to to my car for speed AC suspension engine and even automatics.. I've rebuilt plenty of Edelbrock / Carter style carburetors and I did have one, just one that I could not get to run correctly...
Damnedest carburetor I ever seen.. the guy I got it from just could not get it to run correctly whatsoever. we brought to my house and I clean the heck out of it but it was still very filthy. He took it back home and it ran better but it still wouldn't idle correctly... so he gave it to me and I gave it the Royal treatment. I bought a good rebuild kit for it and I even took all the little pieces and submerge them in that carburetor cleaner goo... The carburetor and every last piece came out shining like brand new.. I proceeded to rebuild it and put everything exactly to factory spec... put it on my car and couldn't never get the @&#$ thing to idle!...
Some lucky guy got it at the swap meet a couple of years ago for next to nothing.....

This carburetor that the Op is getting I would probably just slap on the car and see what happens before I spent any money on a rebuild kit...

Na I wouldn’t recommend that. It is in almost brand new shape but it has been sitting a while and at the very least I would throw gaskets and an accelerator pump at it.

I know the carburetor I got for my buddy had sat on his shelf for untold amount of years and I think I just popped the top off and sprayed it out with some carb cleaner witch really didn't do nothing cuz it was pretty clean inside and I think I took just like a drop of transmission fluid just a film and rubbed it around the rubber on the accelerator pump and it ran great...
People's experiences May differ though LOL...

Well if I’m going to be cleaning it up and taking it apart somewhat, I’m going to put at least a new pump in it.

If you have swap meets (or when they start up again), you can get used Eddy 500/600/625 for $100 or less.

In the past 10 years I've bought 6 of them. The most expensive one was $75.

All bolted on and ran fine with minor adjustment except one that had a clogged accelerator pump squirter, which was super easy to remove and blow out.

Unlike the Holley pictured above, there's not a lot to to an Edelbrock, and they are very easy to rebuild. Most just need cleaning.

Randy, as mentioned earlier, take your time & read the instructions in the rebuild kit before taking the thing apart. You might even document the stages of deconstruction with your phone camera just for reference purposes. At 61, it should be relatively easy to take your time with the rebuild. I'm closer to 70 than 60 & I've been building carbs for over 50 years. Holleys are more in my wheelhouse, but I've done my share of Carter/Edelbrocks, Quadrajets, & others. I still see some different things if I get into a carb that I don't fool with that often. As the old says goes, "measure twice, cut once" that applies to reading the instructions. Good luck, I'm sure the fine folks here will be able to help you if you hit a snag.

Thank you for the support!
And thank god for phone cameras

That's what this forum is all about, a bunch of enthusiasts with the common factor being Mopars, We all help one another out even though tempers flare from time to time & there is a good bit of ribbing between members.

Some carbs are just done for, if the throttle shafts are wore.
I had a guy in FL bush and rebuild my WO carb for my Willys, the sob now a few years later will not idle right, I am pretty sure the throttle shaft went back to crap.
Try to find any parts for a 70+ year old vehicle, most parts are worse than what you already have.

man I got a crazy jeep story. Had a new customer call me and he wants to get a motor and it's 46 Jeep given to him by his aunt when his uncle passed. He remembers it as a kid and said his uncle was quite eccentric. It had a straight 6 in it that someone put in it but it was totally Frozen. so of course this is when people get ahold of me. When they're at wit's end... Anyways I go get my best friend who just happens to have a 46 Jeep LOL we go look at his Jeep and sure enough his brother has the exact motor alternator to flywheel housing everything. Oil pan to carburetor ignition system with coil. Three hundred bucks! His dad had bolted it to a crate and got it running but he ended up putting a better motor in his Jeep. So this is been sitting a number of years but ran the last time. His name is Jeff the guy we're buying it from my best friend's brother his name is Jeff. This new customer of mine is kind of mind blown by how the Stars lined up. I'll be going there Saturday to pick up the motor with him and start getting it into the Jeep..

@j par reading your voice to text posts is like reading a child’s book written by a child.

I once got a 64 jeep six cyl to run on 3 shots of Everclear in the sediment bowl.

The bowl was plugged and the owner didn't know anything about cars, and also had no gas can.

@RandyB Im showing out for delivery today by the end of the day. Your new (used) carb should should be there soon. Keep us updated.
