I'm not promoting this guys videos but he is pretty knowledgeable, and may have hit on something. A few friends over the last year have wiped out cams after taking all the proper steps. I'm no guru on the subject, but there are rules to follow and we have been careful to check list the procedure, and still had failures. Maybe this will help someone.
