Good evening all! I don't post a lot on here, but really enjoy reading all the articles I can. There is a ton of knowledge here, thanks for that! There's some far out stuff too! Haha
The question I have regards the 69 340 swinger. I have a true lm23p9b car, did they install the torque boxes to strengthen the chassis on this car? This car does not have them, my limited knowledge thought these cars came equipped with them. This car came with an auto, non 4 spd. TIA

both mine were auto's and did not have them. no idea if that was normal

I think it was typically a 4spd thing. Although I did have a 72 340 4 speed that did not have them either.

Nothing definitive but I was told by a body guy that Big block 4 speed Darts got the torque boxes.

4speed only on A bodies, though it's a worthwhile upgrade IMHO for automatic cars

I know they were on the A body big block cars. Most had the rear only like mine (original 383 auto) some had front also. I have heard some 340 cars had them but never saw one.

Convertible, Big block, and standard shift 2 door cars had them. I have seen some Automatic cars with them but very rare. Some late 71 and newer cars there were standard shift cars without them.

My buddy's original 70 Duster 340/4 spd. did not have them so he put them in. I'm curious if you could also request them when ordering ?

Good question, my guess is no, but, I am no expert by any means!! A 340 4 spd without them? This just makes me more curious as to what cars had them or not...

Like I said, my 72 340 4 speed demon did not have them. I was really surprised it did not. I would be interested to see if anyone does have a 72 with them. Maybe they stopped putting them in to save costs in the later years.

I saw a 72 Demon 4 speed car one time it had torque boxes.

I had an original 1970 Dart 340 4 speed and it had them front and back. I've used the US car tools version on 2 Darts (much beefier but doesn't look stock for the resto crowd) and they went in easy and work well.

I bought my old '69 340 Swinger in November of 1969. It was just a couple of months old and the only changes the original owner had done were a wood-rim steering wheel and Cragars. He put the Cragars on with the original white-wall tires!
But to answer your question, it was an automatic car and did not have torque boxes installed.

Well it looks like an auto 340 did not get them. I'll be putting a chassis stiffening kit in my car regardless. Thanks for all the input!

Good decision!
Even though my current '69 Dart didn't get them from the factory it now has Hotchkis subframe connectors and US Car Tool lower core support, inner fender braces and front and rear torque boxes. It also has cowl to front frame braces.
