Hi all,

firsts off this is going is going be in a 95% street car ( weekend toy) not a racecar (1-3 times a year track maybe). the car is a 69 Dart, mini tubbed Dana 60 4;10. Auto.full interior/ all steel. I would like to run a 383 that I have sitting here. my "goal" would be to run low 12 or better ( maybe dreaming).

here is what I have so far.
68 - 383 .30 over
flat top piston stock
stock steel crank 10/10
550 lift ( was told) solid can
187 pan
hi vol oil pump
fluid damper

"Massaged " 906 with slight polishing
doctile steel rockers

Iwant to put on Edelbrock RPM heads to lose some Lbs

thoughts/ imput ??

Change the pan it will run dry and bad deals. I run a Moroso 7.5 pan with almost no interference!

Go with the EDDY or Trick flow heads, it will do it. JMO!

Ask Andy for realistic expectations!

Sorta generic description.
what pistons, do they have valve reliefs , are they very close to or at zero deck ?
Intake ? carburetor ?
550 cam ? unknown
convertor stall

How much are the pistons in the hole? If you keep 10 to 1 compression, ported Eddy heads, small headers, dual plane intake w/ modest carb there should be no problem reaching 12s. Stock ignition is adequate.

ok. convertor - not Purchased yet ideas ?
no valve reliefs pretty much deck height
carb is a Holley 750 DP
intake not purchased yet but thinking rpm Edelbrock

as far as the cam im tearing the block down this weekend and hopefully will be able ti figure out the info on the cam , just going by the info i have from buying the engine

Need more info. Especially the cam. Could be anything. Look for numbers on it. Should be on the very back.

Low 12’s are a piece of cake...... but, the cam and converter really need to be on the same page.
And....... it might require more cam than you really “want”.

For 95% street use....... cam it for that, then get a converter that’s a good match for the cam....... then it just runs what it runs.

You can really ruin a nice street combo by chasing ET.

Good heads and adequate compression will obviously help.

383’s with stock pistons don’t have tons of v/p clearance....... which will limit how big the cam can be without needing to be cut for valve reliefs.

Cam out of the motor. Having trouble finding info on it

Here's the specs for that cam for BB chev...

The engle part number is HL 25/26,
here are the specs.:
valve lift> 560int/580exh
adv dur> 286int/292exh
cam lift> 330int/342exh
dur@.050> 242int/252exh
lobe center> 110

Not sure if they'd be the same for a BB Mopar or not.

With the normal Mopar 1.5 rocker ratio instead of the 1.7’s used in a BBC, the lift would be:
.495/.513

I’m going to guess the “112” stamped into the OP’s cam is the lsa.

I ran a Erson grind in the late 70's with similar specs

242/252 in a 383 is a decent size cam.

The 2315 pistons don’t provide tons of VP clearance for long duration or tight lsa’s.

I’d say no if that 112 is indeed the LSA. But it’ll run good!

Will the cam be “ lumpy “?

With 242/252@ .050, you would def know it had a cam in it.

It’s got 65* overlap....... compared to the MP 474 cam that has 60*, and the MP 484 cam that has 68*.

What do the bores look like? “Pretty much zero deck” you really need to measure to make sure. A deck bridge is cheap and you can buy a cheap dial indicator. You will need the dial indicator for the cam work/end play etc.

I still have some Engle FT cams..K62 and a KV6 and some mild rollers..if you don't use that cam and want a bit more give me a shout.

Looks like it’s time to build a stroker. I don’t wanna waste money on this I want a 451

I would just put it back together and enjoy the car...
When you guys were over here I don't remember what you told me what you had left to do to the car,but I do remember you have been chipping away at it for too long..
That engine will make some power and should be a blast to drive...enjoy it...you have it...use it...:steering:
