Question about buying beer?

-
Bought some ammo at Walmart a few months ago, kid asked for my ID, said he had to just cause big brother was watching and he'll get in trouble if he didn't check my ID.
Have to show a CCW to buy any handgun ammo in Walmart here.

Ok, i live out here in Commiefornia, that is all F'ed up with their laws, rules, regulations.
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but am known to purchase a 6 pack, every now and then, on rare occasions.
Two weeks ago i purchased a 6 pack of Corona's, at the supermarket, where i do my weekly shopping.
The check out clerk asked me for my birth day.
WTF, I'm 67 years old, and not a teenager trying to pass for 21.
So i gave it to him.
Now 2 weeks later, this week, i figured I'd try a 6 pack of Modelo, and see how i like it.
Asked for my birth day again.
So i open my mouth and asked why you want to know my birth day to purchase a 6 pack of beer.
Now is this a corporate store policy, something new, in the way of some law purchasing beer?
I wrote the Raley's, Bel Air, corporate offices, but they never returned a e mail to me.

Anybody experiencing anything like this, in any of the other states?

I can understand asking to show an ID, if you don't look 21, but why are they wanting to track a birth day, by asking the customer.
So i told them July 4, 1776.
I could have made up any day, month, year, and nobody would be any wiser.

Rant over, for the day.

What I don’t get, is in NY, more and more stores have gone to scanning the id. They don’t even look at it. I had a cashier tell me to use my wife’s ID as long as she could scan it. I saw a man in his 60’s get ID’d for 2 cans of beer today at the supermarket. I assumed when they started scanning the id it was some sort of data collection. Like if the insurance company was getting the info from purchases they would charge more if you were buying marlboros and beer than if not. All speculation of course

I'd be willing to bet that the information from those scans get's sold to someone :BangHead:

Wait until you can't buy or sell unless you got the 'mark". Then your every transaction will be recorded, and they'll know exactly where your are most of the time. What does that tell you about satellites?

I've been carded more than few times for spray paint.

Some stores, and especially the larger corporate ones have it programmed into their system, to lock up for any age required product. The store I use to work at has gone to scanning the ID. They're doing this to protect themselves from fines, and to protect their liquor, tobacco, etc. licenses. I believe the reason for the scan is to prevent a cashier from doing what was mentioned above. If they look of age, just punch a number in. I know personally of one instance where that happened, and got the store busted for selling cigarettes to a minor. Cashier's first day on the job, and the trainer no less, told him to just punch a number in. It was a sting. 17 year old kid, that looked in his 20's.

My friend works here, he said if they don't card they get fired, zero tolerance.

You gotta wonder why a 17 yr old kid would take part in that action, and how that is even legal to do...

Locally, it has been done by those who face juvenile charges who've received some sort of promise of leniency.
