318 EFI and carb

-
What year did Dodge stop using carburetors on 318s and switch to EFI? Can the later EFI engine be converted to carburetor by swapping the intake from the earlier 318? I need an easy fix for a smoking 1974 Duster.

Why not look into a FiTech or Holley sniper to replace the carb?

Well, you can buy a used Holley for $50. $35 later you have a rebuild kit, and they work quite well.
The FI stuff is nice, but for a possible 10% increase in mileage, $1,000 is a lot to spend.
If I did have the money just laying around, I would probably go FI on a daily driver.

agreed, that's a lot of miles that the 'slightly' more economical setup has to do to even break even let alone start saving money. yes i know the driveability is improved somewhat but i've got my daily if i want to drive nice. my toy doesn't need daily driver manners.
neil.
