Okay, I give up. What is a candy cane, and what does it look like?

The infamous trim that goes around the headlights and bottom of the grille on a 65 Dart - they’re shaped like a candy cane

500 bucks for 2 peices of trim. That's love right there.

....and compared to the cost of finding suitable used pieces, then plus the cost of having them re-furbished/restored, then the cost of re-anodizing.....that $500 price tag isn't so bad after all......once you stop and think about it for a minute....

If that was the last piece I needed to complete the restoration, I'd spend 500 for it. As for a daily, I'd see the price and become bitter. Lol i.k.y.k.w.i.m.
They'll only get cheaper as more are sold over time I'm sure..besides...if you blew them out at say 250.00 a set... you wouldn't be able to make them fast enough

I paid $250 to have mine refurbished then found a better pair and had them refurbished. Total cost: $495. Hey, I'm a genius!

the cool: i don't need them, but happy anytime someone takes the chance to make something like this

not so cool: a $500 part and not one picture? :realcrazy:

Agree. Now, about those pieces of 235hp engine trim Layson’s has been promising...

Which items are you waiting on? I was waiting for them to make the early A-body convertible rear interior panels.

On their web site they show the 235hp air cleaner, valve covers, etc., as coming soon - for the last couple of years. I have a ‘65 4-speed Go-Go coupe and a ‘65 235hp/904 convertible, but, fortunately, my rear interior panels are ok. You see them from time to time for sale on this web site, but they are rare. It would be great if someone did repop them. Not too many ‘65 convertibles, though. Really neat cars.

Those panels fit '63-6 Dart and Valiant Convertibles and they say they're "coming soon" too. In talking with them, they say they have the CAD work done. they just need to decide if they're going to make them in two piece fiberglass like the originals, or one piece ABS, which would be easier and cheaper to make. I voted for original type. Can't see any point in doing and expensive restoration and not having it like original. I did manage to recently find a decent pair though, so, I might just spend that money on something else made of "unobtainium"!

I think I have some '65 273 4bbl. valve covers, but, I'd have to look..... and check condition if I have them. I'm sure they'd have to be repainted to be nice. PM me if you're interested before I go to the trouble of trying to get to the back of the shed!

Cudamark - Don’t go digging. I have what I need for both cars, but I’m always up for some reasonably-priced repop stuff. Thanks for offering to look.

I'm glad you said it so now I dont have to!! That's an absolutely ridiculous price for a pop metal part that costs probably 25 bucks to make.
I don't think the price is ridiculous at all. When you consider the cost of tooling up to make a show quality pair of parts, and that it only fits a '65 Dart, I think it's quite reasonable and you're lucky it's even available.

You're?? I don't have a 65 dart so it doesnt affect me. But if i did id be pissed if i needed that particular part! Id do without or make some out of duct tape before i paid 500 bucks for 50 cents worth of pop can metal

I checked about pressing out 66 Dart headlight bezel. About $10,000 for the press dies and the trim dies X2 for the left and right. 1 year only of course. There's not that many cars around that need perfect ones at a few hundred dollars a piece.

That's exactly why so many of our precious cars get parted out unfortunately. People know those parts will sell for big bucks so they take a perfectly fixable car and strip it down and make 10 times there money back. I understand it but it still makes me sad. Lol I wish aftermarket parts was more available and affordable.

That's your choice, of,course. At least now you have a choice. I'm hopeful that others don't feel that way, or, nobody will be willing to invest the money needed to make the reproduction parts we need and can't find used.

Awesome news! they called me last night and mine is on the way. $500 a set isnt bad im just glad someone is popping this stuff out even if it is made from old tab cans. haha

Hey at least Tab cans are vintage aluminum! Seriously making these is not cheap. I bought some one year only panel pieces from them semi recently, wife thought I was nuts at 500 a side for patch panels, but the fit and quality is well worth the price to me.
