My son says he might want to put a bench seat into the 65 Valiant, which is getting a B&M floor shifter. Any pics or experiences, things to watch out for, of that combination? We were planning on buckets, but benches are cool too.

I'm pretty sure it's going to have to come from an early A due to the width, but we're putting a newer floor in it so that might be an option?

Thoughts?

With the tranny out I ran bolts up through the bottom running a nut to the floor creating studs for the shifter to sit on. Makes installation a breeze. Then painted the shifter housing to match. In the bottom picture I widened the shifter housing and added switches for a electric water pump, fans and line lock.

Get one for a truck. They have a tall base. You can trim it to your desired height or if you like it like it is leave it alone.

Sorry no pics.
In the '69 340 Swinger I bought in November '69, I eventually put one of the old B&M Series 60 'chrome box' shifters in front of the bench seat.
I'm 6'3" but my 'ex' was only 5'3". The shifter was installed with enough clearance to be able to pull the seat forward in case she drove the car (which she very rarely did).
What was funny was just before we moved from an apartment into our first home, we bought an Irish Setter puppy. We were able to pick it up on Friday and have "weekend custody". I'd pick him up on Friday afternoon and he'd lay down next to me on the bench seat.
I'd had the 727 built as a reverse-pattern manual-shift and each time I shifted into 3rd gear the shift knob would hit the pup in the nose - but he never moved out of the way.
I guess the moral of this story is...the shifter will fit in front of the bench seat.
