This California Formula S Barracuda has an air cleaner with a fitting to attach a vent hose to the valve cover (in photo the hose is on passenger side). The chrome air cleaner has a decal in front which is so old and tattered it may be a factory item. Does anyone know if a '65 "CAP" chrome air cleaner came from the factory with such a decal? If so, what did it say? Thank you.

I can’t comment on wether the chrome one had a sticker or not but the 2 barrel one only has a air filter info sticker about service.
Also for my CAP system it has the Crank case ventilation on the drivers side with the PCV on the passenger side. (Which I don’t see at all in the picture.) Again all two barrel information but I can imagine it being that different.

That's the dilemma, if we turn the air cleaner around to fit the vent hose on the opposite side, the decal will disappear to the rear of the chrome air filter (not saying that's the wrong positioning-maybe better to hide it being the cover is chrome and maybe Chrysler's intention to begin with).

What I know of no decal was attached under the engine compartment. That decal on your air cleaner is the one showing how often you should change your air filter element. Ot wasn' on all cars however. It looked like this with the exception of the part#!
This decal is on Ebay right now.

Again, I can only give info on how they did the 2 barrel.....
But the breather hose on mine is a little longer and would attach to the fitting clocked closer to the firewall on the driver side with the air cleaner sticker ending up semi hidden on the passenger side near the fire wall.
I also vaguely remember that a digram (maybe from the FSM?) showed the air flow through the motor with suction on the passenger side and breather on the drivers side. I don’t think it would be a big deal to run it the other direction or relocate the sticker if so desired.

All that I have seen were on the drivers side as well although I don't know what is correct.

I don't think CAP happened until 1968. My original Air Cleaner Service sticker is pointing 90* toward drivers side along with a/c vent and PCV on pass. side.

I don’t think cap was widely used and mandated but my car was sold new in San Francisco. (I have the window sticker to confirm.) I believe all California sold cars received CAP.

Interesting. Would it be possible to get a copy of your window sticker? Just how they looked.

Since that the 273 Commando or 273 Charger aluminium pie pan was glued on the top of the lid it it possible to see the places where this oil filter decal was attached. Since the hose from the breather cap was on the drivers side the decals was placed in the front or on the passenger side. Is your placed in the front?

This car does not have the CAP system, which was not offered or available on any cars in '64 or '65. It was production-tested on a small number of '63s, then it was standard equipment on all California-sold cars newly for '66, then standard equipment on all USA-sold cars newly for '68. What was put on the California cars starting in '64 was not CAP, it was closed crankcase ventilation (crankcase breather ducted to air cleaner instead of just open to atmosphere).

No, there isn't meant to be a CAP decal on the air cleaner.

I thought they still received the weird timing curve like CAP cars though?

No, there was no CAP-but-we're-not-calling-it-CAP advance curve or any other special California advance curve until '66, except that small-scale '63 production test.

Sorry to take this thread in a slightly different direction away from the decal but.... If there was no special distributor curve until ‘66 my timing is way off and need to adjust it. So I just want to confirm what you are saying.

This is my documented '65 Dart 270 with Charger 273 engine, cosmetically refreshed, but came as you see it now. It was garaged in the '80s and not messed with until I bought it last year. It is a Rally Pak car (273 Charger, 4 speed, sure grip). It came from the LA factory with the CAP.

I would assume that the chrome air cleaners received the decals as well.
This is my 67 2bbl air cleaner, it is the exact top as the Commandos,
this is a California car with CAP
This is the correct decal and most likely would have been the same.
This decal is available new, may not be listed for this application, (early 60's 413 I think), so it was used for many years into 67.

They typically have the housing part number and the filter numbers on them.

I love how the parts sellers sell these decals as correct and list a one size fits all one.
