4 barrels and intakes are over rated on street cars

3.07:1 was the factory 8 1/4" axle ratio for 1990s XJ Jeep Cherokees with manual transmissions, my Jeep came with that ratio I actually swapped it to 3.55s since it has a 5-speed manual with overdrive and I'm running larger-than-stock tires. 3.07 gearsets are fairly easy to come by around here (I'm in Colorado which is Jeep land) and super cheap because everyone swaps them out for a shorter ratio like 3.55s or 4.10s when going to bigger tires. I got the 3.07 ring and pinion used for well under $100 from a Jeep used parts dealer in Colorado Springs.

Actually the entire rear end I swapped into that car came out of an XJ Cherokee but it had 3.55s which were too short for highway cruising with no overdrive. Automatic Cherokees came with 3.55s because the AW4 had a much taller overdrive gear than the AX-15 manual.
I have 3:55 gearing in my 67 Barracuda that is equipped with a 727 transmission - no overdrive.
I cruz at highway speeds 55-70 mph frequently. I dont see the issue with it.
