I used struts for a late 90’s or so Mitsubishi rear hatch. I did a test fit on my wagon back in Oct 2016 and expect finally to install everything this month or early next after the wagon is in paint

Nope on the hood torsion rods. The only sokution for weak rods is to find a better set, maybe convert to a 67-later hinge, or convert to hydraulic lifts. The biggest drawback to the last two is you gotta remove the front fenders for access
