I am new to the old car ownership. But I am starting to get a kick out of the guess of the year and people asking what /6 or whatever other crazy thing is in it.

Yesterday I had some one ask if (my 65 Dart) was a '58? What?

I just wanted to create a light fun place for people to put the insane things people ask about their cars while they are out driving for comical humor. So lets here some crazy questions you have gotten.

Just got asked again the other day, "is that a nova, cool!"

I had a 71 and some guy at the gas station was talking to me about the car and said "are you sure it's not a 73, it looks like a 73?". I had to laugh and tell him that I was 100% sure it was a 71 and had to explain that 71 and 73 are different generations.

Had a guy on a parking lot ask if my 67 Dart Convertible was a Chevelle

I get tired of people.... at the gas station always telling me what I should do with my Demon. It’s a factory 340-4 speed car. If I get told one more time I should “big block it.” I will scream.

now the 66’ Barracuda is very different. I hear every story about “my grandma had a...” and “my dad drove a valiant just like this.” I am surprised how many people even know what a early Barracuda even is. But the best is How everyone thinks it’s worth like a billon dollars. “Keep that slant six - it will run forever on no oil.” It’s not a slant six it’s a v-8.- me. They respond: “Nope, they never made one of those as a V8.”- bystander.

If I had a nickel every time my Dart got called a nova....
Ive also had people ask if my car was the one they used in the "Beretta" TV show... I guess all 4 doors look the same
My brother has the same issue in his International Scout 2... 90% chance its called a Bronco

I've driven old Mopars for daily drivers...

When my oldest son was 4 or 5 years old, he was with his mother at the nursery getting some plants... A guy and his girlfriend pull up and my son excitedly yells out, "Mom look, it's a 68 Valiant"...

The woman that got out of the passenger side was amazed and asked, "How does he know that"???

It's because I had some 68 and 69 Valiants, he knew what to look for to tell the year... (But they didn't tell her...)

I couldn't begin to count the times people have commented on my 1964 Barracuda and then proceed to tell me about their (insert what ever relative you think of) who had one exactly like it but theirs had the Hemi.

Pulled into the local car show parking area with my '65 273 auto Signet convertible (with the V8 badges on front fender). The organizer of the event guided me into my assigned parking spot. The first thing he said when I spoke with him was how much he respected the slant six.

Pulled into an ARCO station in Mill Valley driving my '72 Satellite (Robin Williams lived there). A man with gray hair walked up and asked me why it said "Plymouth" on the quarter panel?

Posted a one minute video of the '72 Satellite on Youtube before paint/restoration. Persons commented that my Satellite was not a '72 model, but a '71 model. I explained I had installed a '71 bumper, but later someone else still disregarded my explanation and tried to tell us it was a '71 model again (the side marker lights should have been a dead giveaway).

Yea I know... funny guy lol!
Big Block Chevrolet with from a school bus Tall block.
YES...school bus big block with factory six pack, just like my uncle had brand new back in the 70s

on a side note, ill share this story again (posted it once or twice before)

so I drove the duster out to the store the other day and as I'm walking back out, I am walking many 20 feet behind this couple
just far enough to be able to make out half of the conversation

as luck would have it, they walked past the duster, and then took a sharp left around it to get to their car

I can see them looking at it, and I hear him say something, but im too far off to hear what he said (but dollars to donuts, he called it a nova)

whatever he said, I could hear her reply loud and clear
she said "its a duster"

the guy just stops, looks at her and goes "how could you possibly know that?"

and she, with her chipper little voice, goes, "says so on the front"

that made my day

I get tired of people.... at the gas station always telling me what I should do with my Demon.

I used to have a simple response. I hold my hand out, rub my thumb and fingers together the "give me money" gesture and tell them "I'll be glad to fix this the way you want, just get your wallet out............"

Had a guy on a parking lot ask if my 67 Dart Convertible was a Chevelle

I get that one too and the Nova comment.

Oh well, my buddy has a 71 Chevelle and he was working out some issues with the brakes. I told him to jack up the radiator cap and drive a Mopar under it then I'd help him more.

Turns out, it works both ways

I was just driving with my girls and one of her friends in the car as we were passed by a 71 chevelle (not like going fast, passed, but me being in the turning lane and him going straight, passed)
And the two older girls got all exited and pointed and yelled "duster, duster"

yeah, I told them, he'd wish!

DIYgarage, what grill is in that duster??

69 valiant
Pretty much a direct bolt in, and in my humble opinion the BEST looking front grille ever to adorn an A body
(Specially with the 70-72 duster tail lights, it just jives like it was designed to go together)
