Hi,

I am talking with ABC Mopart in Kingman Az about rear armrests for A-Body convertibles and they are asking if all of them had the ash tray insert and if there was a difference between Valiant and Dart. Can anyone enlighten me so we can get some of these repoped!

I'm interested in early A but first question is are they all the same from '63 up?

Thanks,
Jim

I have a set from a 65 Canadian Signet/Dart with ashtrays in them.

If your armrests snap in with tabs (spring metal) I would recommend that you have them built with a more flexible steel then what they use for the 67 to 69 dart rear convert arm rests.
I bought a set and one of the spring tabs snapped before it got into the slots (and yes I do know how to install them, I have had the OEM in and out many times)

This is OEM

They replaced the part, which was great. Trouble is the replacement did the same thing.

I ended up making my own clips from mild steel and haven't had any troubles.

My clips on ABCs part

My belief is the spring steel they are using is just too brittle, doesn't allow for enough flex before the metal is past it's elastic limit.

Just my 2 cents

The molded sides that rapped around the rear seat had the ash tray. Behind the the ash tray were 2 slots for the spring loaded arm rest to snap into so the arm rest did not have ash trays

I think you are referring to 67 to 69

OP is talking 63 to 66,

Production would cost less if the ash trays are deleted.
Longer pads to delete the rear ash trays in my 67 vert is a project within a project.
Good luck to all.

My 65 Canadian custom 100 Valiant convertible has ash trays in the arm rests. When painting the interior parts I painted the arm rests and I had a roll of vinyl Chrome so I covered the top of the ashtrays and put them back in. They will never be opened as the rest of the ashtray is missing.

The 64 Dart GT Verts I've been looking to buy have all had ashtrays in the rear arm rests. Don't know if it is a GT upgrade.

I have not checked. You should contact them (anyone who wants them should) to show there is a market.

Hi Jim I have a spare pair but I’m in Australia if you want them
I’m getting mine recovered. After I removed them I realized they are simple to restore as they are not like the fronts and have expanded foam to form them.
