When I lived in Colorado back in 79 there was a small town near my work named Marble that was a mining town back in the early 1900's. They quarried marble of course and it was pretty mountainous terrain. Beautiful country. Anyway, there was a narrow gage RR that they used to bring the dimensional blocks of marble down from the quarry on and at the end of the line in Marble they had a turntable that they used to turn the Steam engine and tender around on to head back up the mountain. The perimeter foundation was still in place in 79 and it was carved out of marble and if I remember correctly it was so well balanced and level that they would push the engine and tender around by hand. Impressive craftmanship.
