What happened to all the killer mopar shops rumble and moper used to brag about?
You should have called my attention like I called mopers below.
@moper Isn’t here to much anymore. He pops in once in a blue moon. Brag about I shop do I? Ummm, not really. I’ll just tell you the facts about them and you do your homework/make your choice.
Considering where he lives and where I live, even if it was at the bottom corner of his state, getting here time wise is not something I think he would want to do. Also, getting onto Long Island is ether a bit of a pricey ferry ride (1 hour, one way, here are there rates.
Rates - The Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company ) or continue on I-95 through Ct. on one of the worst roads I have ever traveled through some of the most out right worst traffic I have ever had the displeasure of being trapped in only to drive through two borrows (county for those that don’t know, yes, NYC is a 5 a county city) of NYC and an additional 40 to 55 miles to the two shops near me which depending on the time of day could be an easy extra 3+ hour drive, accidents or Friday traffic not included. While I know a shop or two worth there salt closer to NYC, I can say much about them personally since I have not used them but only know of there worth through other MoPar guys that will jump and shout about there work. For me, driving an hour+ to see a machinist is a bit much for myself. Not through the traffic filled areas to get to them at least.
The guy I used (A 1 man show that sometimes has his son in there, SOMETIMES!) for my last 3 engines is totally swamped. I am unamused that I waited 6 months for head work that never happened. So now that I have time and some health back, I’ll do it myself.
The other shops that I would deal with are ether an hour East into the Hampton area which is now ridiculously crowed since the COVID struck and not as many people leave the east end of the island anymore or a 45+ minute clear Hwy drive to the south shore.
SK Speed was listed in the old MP books as a place to go to have your MoPar done and there still in biz. (Engine shop separates from the speed shop FWIW) The old guns retired leaving there very capable and experienced apprentice(s) at the helm. They are approximately a 1 hour drive from the ferry.

I’ll have the machinist machine the work and I’ll do the rest. I have the room to do so. IDK about the OE poster.
