My 74 Dart Sport began life with a 198 and a column 3 spd manual.

It now has a 360, 727.

I removed the shift lever, and I don't care if the column sleeve and the linkage down on the engine side of the firewall stay there.

But, how do I remove the "feature" that locks the column when the 3 speeder is in reverse? If I remove the steering wheel, will I see something obvious that needs to be removed?

I don't want to click it off while moving and have it go all the way to "lock".

Reverse lock does not lock the column, other way around. The column will not lock unless it is in reverse, and once that is done, the transmission is locked in reverse so it cannot be pushed (easily.)

You need to put it in reverse and tie the linkage with a tie wire until you get it modified. I have never done that part of things

Ah, you refreshed my memory. (Acute Old Fartitus) If I remove the steering column lock, it doesn't matter what position the remaining shift linkage is in. And actually, as long as that column sleeve doesn't rotate to the reverse position, it won't lock.
