D-66 questions

You may want to look into something like this.
I looked at these 2 piece washers. The manufacturer says they will correct for 1-2 degrees and I think this is actually more. I still need to find the ap someone suggested and do the math!

The app on the phone mentioned is a “level.”

Wife & I have a tin condo in an ocean front campground in Myrtle Beach. When I go down to the beach in the morning to set up our umbrellas and chairs, I use the level on my Iphone to get the umbrella poles straight. Some dude came up and asked me WTH was I doing with the phone a while back. I didn't like his tone, so I told him my phone was linked to a NASA satellite, and it could tell the straightness of my umbrella pole within 1/64th of an inch from 72 miles in space. He just looks at me all dumbfounded, without anything to say. I raised the phone up and acted like I snapped his pic, and told him the FBI also uses the same satellite for surveillance. He just slowly walked away!

I found the right triangle calculator app that someone mentioned and using the measurements posted earlier, I figured that the angle on a 66 and up manifold is 8.3 degrees, and the angle on a 64-5 manifold is 17.65 degrees. That means what is needed is a 9-10 degree taper, which nobody actually makes as such, but there are sources for both round and D-shaped tapered washers at 8 degrees, or 5 degrees (use 2). Either is probably fine for what we are doing. Fat side in should compensate for any 66 and up LA manifold on early 273 heads, and swap it around with the fat side out and you should be able to put the D-64 (or any other early LA manifold) on any 66 and up small port LA motor. I'm gonna order some and see if they fit on my D-64. If somebody has 66 and up manifold they want to try on early 273 head, send me a PM and I'll mail you some to see if it works...

That's just funny right there, I don't care who you are.

So I ordered myself a digital protractor (which somebody here recommended) and here's what I found. The angle on the D-64 (64-5 heads) is 18 degrees and the angle on the D-66 (66 and up heads) is 10 degrees. so to use early manifold on late heads or late manifold on early heads you need an 8 degree tapered washer (fat side up for one and fat side down for the other and some VERY careful realignment of the bolt holes (which are ovesized for the bolts on every LA manifold). Here are some pictures

Nice work! I like that bottom picture showing the thickness and angles at the rear of the intake manifold. The triangle wedge shape differences can be seen easy now! Good job my man.
